Hi,
Do you know whereabouts in Manchester Thomas lived ?

His wife's name ?

I have found a Thomas married to Hannah, but he is 15 years younger than your Thomas

Regards, Dave

If John was b 1851 that would make Thomas approx 54 when he was born and 83 when John married.  Where did you get Thomas's age from?

There is a Thomas Gilmore b 1796 on the 1841 census but his wife Mary was also b 1796 so was too old to have had a son in 1851

1861 census 33 Piercy St Manchester - all surname Gilmore and all b Manchester

Thomas 38 bricklayer
Jane 32
Thomas 12
John J 10
William 8
Richard H 6
Mary J 4
Charles 2 - the entries are then continued on another page as follows
George 5 months son
Mary Gilmore Head widow 66
Elizabeth daughter 33

Mary & Elizabeth are probably Thomas's mother and sister.  Here is the 1841 census entry I referred to in my previous reply

1841 census - Manchester.  All surname Gilmore and all b Lancs

Thomas Gilmore 45
Mary Gilmore 45
Elizabeth 15
John Gilmore 15
Thomas Gilmore 15

They didn't have triplets - this was the instructions to enumerators on the 1841 census

Instructions to enumerators on the 1841 census

"Write the age of  every person under 15 years of age as it is stated to you.
For persons aged 15 years and upwards, write the lowest of the term of 5 years within which the age is.
Thus -for persons aged
15 years and under 20 write 15"

1851 census for Broad Lane Cheetham - all Gilmore - b Manchester except for William

Thomas 27 Bricklayer
Jane C 27
Thomas 2
William J 1 month b Cheetham

I think it's more than likely - as per the IGI which is free at www.familysearch.org - all the following children were born to Thomas & Mary Gilmore and christened at Manchester Cathedral

John c 5.8.1822
Thomas c 28.3.1824
Elizabeth 28.5.1826

I also found this entry

James Horsfield Gilmore c 2.12.1849 parents Thomas & Mary - obviously a different Thomas & Mary

Thomas Gilmore
 Birth:  1823   Manchester

 Death:  15 DEC 1905   Manchester

Marriages: Jane Howarth     Marriage:  1847   Manchester,

hi carolw thank you for the information i think this thomas gilmore b 1796 was his grandfather

As Thomas jnr was b 1823 it's highly unlikely that Thomas b 1796 was his GRANDfather - he would only have been 27 at the time!!
