Would someone please look up and see if they can find Hessie Taylor in the 1901 Census - I just can't get a lead on my grandmother. I'm sure she must have been Taylor if her husband went to WW1 1914-1918 unless they got married when he came back from the war. That would mean she would be Hessie or Hester Kennedy in the 1901 census. Her husband was Charles.
Please someone find my grandmother for me.

Can you give a bit more info, when was she born and where?

Going through old posts and found this one - have you already found the information on this family that you were looking for earlier? Since then lots of Irish resources have come online.
The 1901, and 1911, census are now online and you can search for Hessie here-

Might be the family in the 1901 census:

Yes, I'd seen that one also which may fit with this from the other thread-
Possible she may have had sisters Isobel, Molly, Ethel and another who went to live at Larne.
-
Yet another post mentions-
...Watson and Kennedy are names in the back of my head. Death Certificate for Hessie Taylor is No.20569T - District Shankill, Belfast...
so the 1901 census entry is looking even more promising.

Thank you all so much for not giving up. I had managed to find the family living in 2 separate houses in the 1911 census (Nos 4 and 6 Disraeli Street, Belfast) Thanks so much for finding my mum's family in the 1901 census. Is the 1901 census available now on line?
My mum Elizabeth Taylor was born at 6 Disraeli Street, Belfast, daughter of Charles Taylor and Hessie Kennedy. Unfortunately, my mum has just died in June 2010 and so I shall not be able to tell her of my findings. This is what happens!
I questioned my mum lots about her family. I did know there were connections in Larne but hadn't really pieced much info together.
I do however know that my mum's grandfather was Watson Kennedy and I do have one photo of him so I am making a start on my Irish connections. My cousin has also fetched me a marriage certificate from St. Anne's Belfast for my grandparents Charles Taylor and Hessie Kennedy - 10th June 1912. My grandfather, Charles Taylor, was 24 and his father's name was William Taylor, a carpenter but I have no idea where to find out any more about him. Perhaps one day.
Were the records before 1901 the records which were destroyed?
Thank you all so very much for your help. :)You are truly wonderful people who are willing to help us. I cannot thank you enough. :) :) I have recommended RootsChat to other people and they have been amazed at the help they have received.
PS My granddaughter and my cousin's daughter are both 12 and their history project is to produce a family tree - guess who's got the job of helping them! ???
Thanks to all of you.

The 1901 census is the earlier complete census for Ireland- only small fragments of earlier ones for a few areas survive.
I already mentioned that 1901 census is also online-
The 1901, and 1911, census are now online and you can search for Hessie here-

I had a look for Charles Taylor and his father William Taylor, in the 2 censuses. I couldn't find any William Taylor who was a carpenter that matched. However there is one possible family, living in Belfast in 1911, and in Lurgan in 1901. (Co. Armagh appears to be where they originate). Wm's occupation is a carter in 1901 and a labourer in a distillery in 1911. If it's the correct family, perhaps that got enhanced to carpenter for the marriage certificate. I'll leave you to decide:

Hi,
As WATSON is a fairly unusual first name I had a look and found two.
24 Sept 1880 Watson Kennedy married Isabella Houston in Ahoghill Church of Ireland, Ballymena.
19 Aug 1918 Watson Kennedy married Jane Greer in St. Annes Church of Ireland, Belfast.
The Father of the 1918 Watson was also Watson and the father of the 1880 Watson was William.
Regards

Thank you all so much.
You have found two marriages which seem relevant to my Kennedy family. :) :)
They must be father and son marriages.
Watson Kennedy and Isabella have a son Watson Kennedy, Aged 6, living at 13 Old Glenarm Road, Larne, Co. Antrim in the 1901 census provided to me by another very helpful Rootschatter.
I wonder what became of the son Watson and his wife Jane. My grandparents Hessie Kennedy and Charles Taylor were married at St. Anne's, Belfast so I think the young Watson must have been my grandmother's brother.
I have just looked through my notes and found a record I downloaded ages ago. It is a death record for Watson Kennedy - date of death - 1/12/1961. He was 68, married, a labourer, living at 5 Matlock Street. He is buried in Glenalina Cemetery and the grave owner is down as JEAN KENNEDY. I had no idea who Jean Kennedy was but with you finding a marriage for a Watson Kennedy to a Jean Greer this grave may be that of my grandmother Hessie's brother.
The trouble with family researching, it goes on and on with lots of surprises. Thanks
Maeabbie
Thanks also for giving me Watson Kennedy senior's father's name of William.

Hi I am interested in the fact that your mum was born at 6 Disraeli street as I have a relation born at that same address in 1919. Her mum was Jane Taylor so I dont know if you know of any connection??
-
Hi
Do you know if Jane Taylor was her married name please? If Jane Taylor was her married name she may have been married to Watson Taylor. Jane Taylor's maiden name was Greer. Does this ring any bells.
Looking forward to hearing from you. My mum died last year in June.

Taylor definitely looks to be her maiden name - her occupation is listed as a grinder. Unfortunately this is all I know, unless she came to stay with relations and could be a cousin of your mums?
-
Hi
Are you able to tell me more about the relation of Jane Taylor please?
My e-mail is: (*)
I live in England. My mother, Elizabeth Taylor, married an Englishman and settled the rest of her life in England.
My mum's father's sister was Jane Taylor but the date of birth would not match with your Jane Taylor.
I just feel there must be some connection with being born at the same house as mum. It's just getting the right pieces to fit.
Because I live in England it is not so easy to find information out without going to the records office in Belfast. Where do you live please?
Look forward to hearing more about your Jane Taylor's family.
Regards
Maeabbie
