Title: Pencarreg Parish Records, please? BENJAMIN
Post by: Benjy on Friday 19 January 07 19:59 GMT (UK)
Hi to some kind person who may have PENCARREG Parish Records.

I am looking for details of 3g-grandfather and family from Pencarrag - Thomas Benjamin (1801- ca 1873), Carpenter, married to Mary (1801- ca 1878) from Llanwenog.

They had the following children:
   Evan (~1830-1915)
   Margaret (ca1836-)
   Sarah (ca1838-)
   Anne (1841-)

Any details very gratefully accepted - Benjy  :)

Found this possible marriage
Thomas Benjamin to Mary Davies on 21/12/1821 in Pencarreg.

The only thing that puts me off is if Evans their first son theres a big gap from when they married in 1821 til Evan was born in 1830.
But there isnt a later one that fits. But will check again tomorrow am off to bed .

Best Wishes Welsh Lady

Dear Welsh Lady,

Thanks very much for your reply. Perhaps they lost some children before Evan?

The name Davies is interesting, since (according to the Census data) two of the daughters gained positions as servants with families named Davies - one at Tanylan, Llansawel and the other at Llangadock.

Distant relations, or perhaps there were a lot of Davies around??

Looking forward to the results of your scrutiny.

Kindest regards, Benjy :)

Hi Welsh Lady,

Well done, and thank you! What about the birth of Thomas Benjamin ca 1801 - do you have a record of that and who his parents might be?

Fingers crossed - Benjy :)

Hi WL,

I would appreciate your counting me in on your next trip to the Record Office. I will certainly let you know if I find out in the meantime.

One further thought - What are the chances that Thomas Benjamin's marriage took place in Llanwenog (Cardiganshire) where Mary came from?

Benjy :D

Been to Record office today.
There are no Baptisms Records before 1813 for Pencarreg in Record Office. So as Thomas was born 1801 that doesnt help.
There is an index of Baptisms 1813-1875 no Benjamins there.
Marriages checked Cardiganshire there is no marriage of a Thomas Benjamin there from 1813-1837.So the Pencarreg marriage looks correct.
The Pencarreg marriage 21/12/1821 Thomas Benjamin, Bachelor (He signed)to Mary Davies(She made her mark ) spinster were married in Church  by banns with consent of parents.Witnesses Jno ? (illegible surname)and Joseph Simon.
The only other marriage for surname Benjamin  possibly his parents? something to keep on file anyway.
Pencarreg
John Benjamin to Anne Edward on March 19th 1791 witnesses John Evans and David Edward.
Sorry couldnt be more help

Dear Welsh Lady,

Thanks sincerely for your kind effort on behalf of the Benjamins. Their 1821 marriage seems a certainty, and you have planted the tantalising possibility of the record of an earlier generation! Much food for contemplation.... I will pass the news around the family.

With gratitude, Benjy  :)
