I am researching the Youers family of Buckinghamshire. In 1901 there were just 7 families in the entire country all in High Wycombe/Wycombe. Can anyone let me know what is listed in the 1881 census.
Thankyou.

Have you checked www.familysearch.org where it is free to search yourself?
-
I will try again, although I have had difficulty accessing the site in the past.

Then try www.ancestry.co.uk where the 1881 census is also free to search.
-
Hi Robert
I don't know if this will help or hinder you but I have just checked my 1851 Bucks census disc & there are no Youers only YOUENS.
Perhaps this is why there only appear to be 7 families in the 1901. Transcription errors. !!!
The IGI on family search also has records of YOUENS born Bucks.
I'm happy to help with the 1851 but unfortunately don't have access to the 61/71/91. Is there someone specific you are looking for.??
regards

I will get back to you if I am able to obtain more information.

I have done some others checks and it appears that there are two distinct families ie Youers and Youens. One suspects that Youers is derived from Youens. I wonder when the change occured.

Hi Robert
I would think you are correct about the two names being originally the same. Quite often the spelling is a transcription error but it's always possible a branch of the family decided to spell it differently. !!!!
Perhaps as your research gets back in time you will see when the change occurred, if it did, that is.
I did notice there are also some Yours on the 51 from Wycombe, they could also be part & parcel. :)
OOps, as posted by Tazzie

Alan, That looks really good. I am trying to tie up all the 1901 census entries into a tree so this helps.

Alan's reply showing Thomas Youers Marrying Ellen? and having a son William Youers B 1862 and married in 1889 to Annie Ives has made a lot of questions for me. I have been researching my side of the Youers tree and haven't got to the stage of buying birth and marriage certificates to absolutely verify - but what I had thought I'd worked out was: Thomas Yours b c1837 (note the spelling) parents James and Ann Yours, married Ellen Turner 2nd Qtr 1861, their son William John? Youers was also born 1861 (there were 2 William Youers born that year and another born 5 years later) William was a very popular name with the Youers family. In the 1881 census William shows up with his father and mother as Youers. William Youers marries Elizabeth Coleman in 1882.
I believe my G Grandfather Rupert William Youers b 1883 was their son, (I don't know if he had any brothers or sisters, but my uncle believes he had 2 brothers - we don't know much about him as 'ran of with another woman' - probably had a midlife crisis :o) he married Ada Elizabeth Lawrence in 1902. They had 2 children, Denis Rupert and Gladys Ada.
I am going to get birth and marriage certificates for Rupert and see what that reveals, but this geneology business is very confusing. ???

Hi, I have Ewers family in my tree from the ~Buckinghamshire areas, this name of yours, Youers is close to the same pronounciation as mine is, is it possible that your related to this branch somewhere along the line and the name has been altered, literacy was never an high point of centuries past. ~Thanks~
-
Hi Annie,
You could be right, although proving a link could be correct. The most usual transcription error has seemed to be Youens.
Robert
-
Hi Annie
Ewers is very likely related to the Youers family, particularly if it is in the Buckinghamshire area. Robert and I have worked out some of the tree so far, but we only go back as far as the early 1800s. There are quite a number of interesting spellings. Do you have any names and dates that we might be able to tie in with what we have?

Hi Ann, Yes I have Quite alot on the Ewers family from Buckinghamshire around the Ashendon/Waddesdon/ type areas, there were alot of little villages within reaching distance of each other, Are you on Genes Reunited? I have a family tree on there, also a fair bit on my computer that is not on there yet. Let me know what kind of names you have and i can see if they tie in with any of mine I have a few lines I just cant find possibly due to changing of name of Ewers to something similar you just never know unless you really look at it i have back to one common ancestor Robert Ewers and Eliza he was born about 1734. You can always email me personally. Thanks Annie
-
Hi Robert, Yes your right proving it is something else, but as we all had experience in variant name changes within family groups it is always a good idea to keep an open mind, literacy was never a strong suit through the ages, and unless you had a vicar that was really literate then your name was often spelt how it sounded . Another is names were changed in spellings so i have learned is that some family members with same names wanted distinguished from other members. I grew up as a Ewers and believe me the spellings we got in the through the mail were quite amazingly different from Yours, Uers, Yous, Ewes, Youls, and my ultimate favorite Sewers, all human error, but then again we are all human! Thanks Annie
