Title: SLEAFORD CEMETERY
Post by: snowqueen1968 on Friday 19 January 07 11:24 GMT (UK)
I was wondering if anyone lived near this cemetery in East Road, Sleaford and would be able to go visit and look for a headstone.  I have the plot number so it's just a case of asking the staff their and locating it.  I'd love there to be a headstone that I could visit in the summer.  Thanks in advance.

Jen  :)

Hi Matt

Thanks for your kind offer but Jayne's mum has already been and looked and unfortunately there is no headstone or marker.  It's a shame cos I'd have liked to have visited in the summer and placed some flowers.  I might still come down as I know the plot number.  Thanks again for your offer.

Jen

Hi
You'll find that there are already some of the graves put onto the FindAGrave website. Also, there are requests on there from people hoping for look ups.

I have been adding to find a grave and billion graves simultaneously . The register has errors galore , the staff at the graveyard have laid headstones down face down . I am making an excel database by section and plan to go photographing in a more methodical manner . Another 100 to transcribe to date. I have been dealing with requests as I go along . Will deal with the Quarrington anomaly tonight . That was my first stab at the app but I'm getting better .  I hope  !

Yes especially the headstones in the old sections that have been made wildflower areas. Some of the stones that are flat have been covered over by soil and plants, and it's too late to try to see what was on them. Many have cracked and the inscriptions lost but you would have also noticed that. I think it's important to record those ones before they are completely lost. Some have been put on Find a Grave, so don't duplicate the work if you can help it - it's a big job. In some cases I've seen the errors are made on the gravestone not the death registrations.
Have you got the plans of the cemetery from the town council which shows the lay out of each of the plots? Some are not in the place you'd think they should be. They squeezed some inbetween other sections.
It's a good job you are doing.
