hi
this has probably been around for ages, but i havejust found it myself, and thought i would post of for the ones who have not seenit either
www.burialrecords.manchester.gov.uk
its a fab website for searching the burial/cremation records for any ancestor that may be in a manchester cemetery
its a pay per view basis but well worth it
the info it gives you is
burial date
section grave number
and even who else is in the grave
i myself have had loads of success from it, I have found graves that i have been looking for for ages

goldy - after checking it seems that Boarshaw will come under Rochdale rather than Manchester council. This is a link to their webpage - they will do searches for you at £23 a time! :(

This is an excellent site, but as yet incomplete!
Gorton, Phillips Park and Southern cemeteries are more or less complete.
"Manchester and Blackley will be available to search soon." is the message on the site.
When I e-mailed them to ask when "soon" was they said they did not know!
Have to keep checking ::)

not cheap is it . Fortunatley I know exactly where dad is and can even find him on google earth. :)
Thanks anyway.

kooky - some cemetery records are also available at Manchester Central Library - your profile doesn't say whereabouts you are, so don't know if this is accessible for you. Here's the link to what they have
http://www.manchester.gov.uk/Libraries/arls/famhist.htm#Cemetery%20Records%20and%20Monumental%20Inscriptions
They will do limited research for you - there are details on their site.

I'm in Northumberland! Not very convenient for Manchester!

I'm in manchester could I help?
-

That explains why I couldn't find my gran's grave when I know the exact date of death etc.

Is there a Salford site of a similar nature?
St Helens MBC has a site on line you can search for free!

thanks Milly but I was hoping for an online search facility!
:-\
have you found this yet?

best wishes,
Ian.

Yes thanks - I have my mysterious William Henry Smith b 1849/50 (Manchester) listed on there. Apparently he was rather a slippery character when he was alive so no surprise I can't find him now!

I feel a bit ripped off, I have just found the link to the cemetery site and found you have to pay!! I use the St Helens site, which is council run, and just as good, and it's free
-
There's been a lot of discussion on here about the site. I'm sure someone will find the link to the other postings. Lots of other cemetery sites are free, including Tameside, but Manchester Council seems to think it is charging a competitive price.

I use it too for Newton-Le-Willows burials - it's great 8) - pity about the cemetery (Newton) itself, especially when you come to find them!! Stones I had been shown in the early 90s are now not there! (I wasn't an avid researcher then so I didn't take pictures or monumental inscriptions!) :(
Looks like Warrington have it up n running too:
