Hello there, ;)
Found a new Puzzle - one of my ancesters - Jane Paul (born 6/04/1813 chr 10 /04/1813 at Gunvrea,St. Agnes), Jane is reputed to have married Richard Bolitho at Redruth on 09/07/1835.
The Lds igi states the same - :P
But, there is no trace so i have been told of the marriage in the parish and i can find no trace of husband and wife in any census!!! :o
Is there a moving black hole - it seems like it at times - all help appreciated - regards - Luc. :)

The IGI entry is an Original, 'extracted' record - not one submitted by a well intentioned member of the LDS Church - so it should be fine ?
Have you looked at the LDS/IGI Fiche at one of their local centres ?

Janes a bit young ... and this '1st child' probably means recently married so doubt this is them on reflection ...

Hi Newfy,
Thanks for the encouragement !! ;D
Sadly it appears that Walter is the child of Jane Frances Tonkin and Richard Bolitho who married in 1839 at Famouth according to Bob Bolitho site -http://users.tpg.com.au/bbolitho/Bolitho/UKM1.htm/ ::)
What a shame - but, thanks for trying it is appreciated - :D
regards -Luc. :)

ah-ha - yes, they were in a bigger household, the Head was a Tonkin.
I always react to Bolitho queries - my 2nd fav' Naval History / fiction character ! :D
-
Hi Newfy,
I know what you mean - I am a fan of the Naval Bolitho too - But,
foremost in my book is Hornblower !! ;D
There we are my childhood secret is out ! ::)
Regards and thanks - Luc. :D

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo - you have to read the Aubrey books by Patrick OBrian - they based the recent film ' Master & Commander' on the series ...

Hi Luc,
Just wondering if you have checked the correct Redruth Parish. I see the marriage took place at Redruth St Uny 9 Jun 1835. I can't see them in the census either, nor do I see and deaths, perhaps they emigrated.
Looks like at least 3 couples named Richard and Jane about at that time.
Cheers Kris :D

Hello Kris,
Sorry for taking so long to reply but now having checked each of the 3 couples and hit a brick wall i am going to give it a rest and come back to it later - thanks again for your help it and your friendliness are always appreciated.
Regards - Luc.

Ok, so I know this post is several years old, but I have been battling with the same family myself and think I have solved it.
Jane did indeed marry Richard Bolitho in 1835, and they had two children (William Henry Paul - 1836, Harriett Jane - 1838) before the 1841 census. In the census, Richard (a tallow candle salesman who supplied the Cornish mines) can be found away from home, whilst Jane and the two children were with her parents in Redruth. It all comes down to an Enumerators error: She and the children were registered under the surname Paul rather than Bolitho. Richard is again away from home in the 1851, still selling his candles, whilst Jane is at home with the growing family (two further children at this stage). Richard's death is registered in Redruth district in 1854, and in 1861 Jane is recorded as a widow. Jane is still alive in Redruth in 1871, with two of her sons (Joseph and Thomas Henry) living with her.
Janes death is registered in Redruth in 1874.
Hopefully you have managed to resolve this in the intervening years!

Hi Wornpick,
Thank you for sharing your findings, they confirm what I had found.
I am still searching for the wills of both Richard and Jane, which I hope will confirm the amount of children they had in total.
Many thanks once again for all hor kindness in sharing this information with me.
Regards Luc.

Are you aware of the intreguing story of a Jenefer Bolitho, widow of a Richard Bolitho who apparently died in a mining accident near Redruth in 1839? There seems to be some confusion as to the identity of these individuals, and from various accounts I suspect they are being misidentified with 'our' Richard and Jane. Jenefer (the widow) was the subject of a Court case involving the death of her new-born child. All in all a harrowing tale.

Hi Wornpick,
Yes, I am aware of it and it is a extremely sad story - but, there seems to be no evidence that this is the same couple as our Richard and Jane Bolitho.
I believe that when we know more about their children and locate both Richard and Jane's headstones this will all be clarified.
Regards Luc.
