Title: Would there have been any Nursing Schools or Colleges in 1891
Post by: Haggis Maggie on Friday 12 January 07 23:35 GMT (UK)
Hello,

Does anyone know if there was any nursing Schools in St Helens or surrounding areas in 1890's?

I am trying to find an Annie/Hannah Darlington born 1876 Sutton St Helens, There is no sign of her on the 1891 and 1901 census .  Any kind person out there willing to help.

I know she went into nursing as she was a Matron in later years.  Any help at all would be appreciated.

Kind Regards    :)
Haggis Maggie.

Hi Haggis Maggie,

1881 census 8 Manor St East Sutton St Helens

John Darlington head 25 glass grinder born Sutton
Alice Darlington wife 25 glass grinder born Newton-le-Willows
Hannah Darlington daughter 5 scholar Sutton

then in 1891 53 Peasley Cross Lane West Sutton St Helens

John Darlington head 35 general lab b St Helens
Alice 35 b Haydock
William 6 scholar b St Helens
Henry 3 scholar b St Helens
Mary A 1 b St Helens
they have a border Thomas Barrett and a lodger Richard Ward.

I can't find Hannah/Annie/Anna Darlington in 1891 either. The names here had been mistranscibed. Sorry.

Hi Coffeecup,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my post, The information you have given me I already have,

In 1891 Hannah Darlington would have been about 15 I was just wondering if she would have gone to Nursing college, or into service.  I know she worked in a London Hospital and was a Matron till she retired, and lived till she was in her 90's.

Thanks again Coffeecup for the information you took time to give me.

Kind Regards
Haggis Maggie. :)
