I have Mackness/Machiness's in my tree.
There is a newspaper article on BNA for a John Mackness who was sentenced to Death at the Huntingdon Assizes.  The report from April 1823 says he almost got away with escaping from the prison along with another prisoner also sentenced to Death at the same time.  They had their punishment altered to Transportation for Life.
Is this the same John Mackness you are referring to?

Regards.  Carole

Just to say Carole, that if you look at the post you have replied to, it was from Jan 2007.

If you click on the posters name 'goobies', it says they have not been on this site since 2018.

Hopefully they still have the same email they registered with, and will get a notification that you have replied.
Just didn't want you to hold your breath for a reply! :)
