Hi Geoff
I have a John Masters born abt 1772 in Pilton, married Edith (possibly Masters) born 1776 also in Pilton, married there in 1807. Had a son John born abt 1808. Do you have any of these people in your tree.

Why don't you include and check your surnames in the Surnames Interests Table? It is much more effective than postings like this.
The link is by clicking on "Your Surname Interests" at the foot of every page

Hi Jericho,
I know Pilton is about 14 miles from the place I have tracked down for my 4x great grandfather's marriage, Combe Hay.
That is where I've been stumped. All I know about him prior to this date {1796} is the fact that he had a sister Elizabeth.
In 1800 he {William} and his family moved to Frome where his sister's family was living. She married James Hackett there at St John's in 1797.
Seeing as how most brides married in their home parish makes me think that wherever they were born it's in the areas bounded by Pilton, Bath & Frome.
Pilton is also the place of a 3X great grandfather John BOULTON b 1802.
Other than that I can't connect with Pilton for my MASTERS family {yet}.
Cheers

Hello Geoff,
I know that there are members of the Butt family in West Cranmore, East Cranmore, Doulting, Dean and Downhead. These are all near Shepton Mallet.
There are supposed to be links to my Hurle family but up to now, I have not found these.
Best wishes,
AK

Hi, I have just started using this site and came across this topic. My family are Masters which are from Somerset. Butleigh (nr Glastonbury) going back to Westbury/East Brent.
-
Hi Jusnoneed,
Your MASTERS of the Westbury area sounds promising.
It's only a few miles from the marriage site of Combe Hay.
This wedding is my furthest date back with my MASTERS family.
William MASTERS b c 1765 married Sarah HINTON in 1796.
They had two daughters {Ann & Elizabeth} born in Combe Hay before moving to Frome where they had two sons , only one survived, James b 1806.
William had a sister Elizabeth b c 1770-1775 & married 1797 at Frome to James HACKETT.
The purchased documents I have do not give any clues that would help me expand on my MASTERS family.
Do any of these names or places mean anything to you?.
Cheers

Hi Geoff,
I haven't got a great deal of detail about them as yet but what I have is as follows. My GGrandfather was William 1860 born in Butleigh, Somerset and his father also William c1833 born in East Brent/Rooksbridge/Westbury, he married Louisa Oram from Butleigh. His father was I think (not got certs yet) John Masters c1801 Rooksbridge married to Sarah ? They had 3 sons William, Robert and George. If this is the same John he was lodging in Butleigh on 1851 Census, as was son William - believe as farm labourers.
That is as far as I have gone with them. Could they tie in with your information.
