In 1881, John and Mary are living at New Cut Cottage in Thorney, Cambridgeshire.....with children.
See www.familysearch.org
Search John Archer...born 1845...in Lincolnshire.....
Will look for them in 1871
-
Hmmm......can't do 1871...
I can find John and Mary in the index..living in Swayfield.....but...when I click on the link it takes me to a plea document for an Ann Cody who must have got in trouble with Mr Plod in New York city.......interesting......but very far from Lincolnshire....
The strangest Ancestry error that I have ever seen!
Will try and find a marriage for John and Ann
-
This is probably the one...but a birth cert from one of the children would confirm.
John Archer married Mary Robinson June Quarter 1868 -Southwell, Notts. 7b-461
Southwell dist includes Rolleston.........
Hope this all helps..
Do you have Fred's marriage cert to confirm that his Dad is John?
-
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP IT HAS MADE A FAMILY CONNECTION EVEN MORE INTERSETING

This is the transcription for the 1871 census entry that indiapaleale had trouble with. I still cannot access the page from the original document but I can now, at least, extract this information....
1871
Bourn Corby RG10/3311 Folio 89 Page 3
John Archer Head M 26 Lincolnshire Swayfield
Mary do Wife M 23 Notts Rolleston
Elizabeth do Daur 2 Notts Maplebeck
Sarah J do Daur 1 Lincolnshire Swayfield
DS
ps Did you notice on the 1881 census that Elizabeth has the surname Robinson ?
-
This looks like it could be John's family (before he married).
1851
Bourn Corby HO107/2095 Folio 74 Page 6
William Archer Head M 39 Ag Lab Lincolnshire Swayfield
Ann do Wife M 37 Lincolnshire Swayfield
Lois do Daur 13 Lincolnshire Swayfield
Thomas do Son 11 Lincolnshire Swayfield
Anne do Daur 10 Lincolnshire Swayfield
William do Son 8 Lincolnshire Swayfield
John do Son 6 Lincolnshire Swayfield
Mary do Daur 4 Lincolnshire Swayfield
Sarah do Daur 2 Lincolnshire Swayfield
Note
There is another John Archer born Swayfield with birth dates ranging from 1845 to 1847 on the censuses with parents Thomas and Ann. He still appears with his mother on the 1881 census, unmarried, and cannot therefore be the one who married Mary Robinson. Whereas the John shown above is not with his parents in 1871 or 1881 and could, therefore, be the one who married Mary. (He is not with his parents in 1861 either). Need to check in other ways to be certain.

Hope no one minds me resurrecting this thread :)
My partner is descended from Thomas Archer age 11 in the above transcript.
While investigating the family I discovered that Lois had two illegitimate children, the younger being born in Bourne Workhouse.
What is intriguing me though is that she is listed as Lois Archer until 1881, but in 1891 and 1901 she is listed as Lois Crow widow (confirmed by children's names and ages). I can't see a marriage for her to a Mr Crow (other people have looked as well).
If anyone has any information as to how she became "Mrs" Crow I'd be very grateful for the information.

Hello barbarad
I notice on the 1881 census, where Lois is a Night Nurse in Huntingdonshire, that there is a patient called Ephraim Crow aged 47 General Labourer.
I also noticed this Death Registration
1888 St Neots JAS quarter 3b 138
Ephraim Crow Aged 56
I cannot find a marriage, but do you think that the above is probably just a coincidence ?
DS ???
-
It does seem to be a big coincidence doesn't it DS? and definitely a possibility.
I don't know that I'll ever be absolutely sure on this one
Thanks for looking
Barbara

Hi there
I was just trawling the posts and came across yours re FRED ARCHER how did you get on did you solve the riddle?
My Grandmother was Ann (Annie) Archer born Jan 12 1898 in Castle Bythan(m) her parents were Fred (Fredrick) Archer born about 1850, occupation given as Labourer on railways. Mother Emily Jane ???
Does this fit with anything that you have as this is an uncharted part of my tree.
Regards Derek
