Title: Thomas Coyle and Ann Masterson of Tonaghmore
Post by: juneoates1 on Friday 05 January 07 09:36 GMT (UK)
My grt-grt-grandfather Thomas Coyle and his wife Ann lived at Hammondstown and Tonaghmore in the parish of St. Feighins, Westmeath.  Thomas (c1773-1849) and Ann (c1799-1875).  I have grave inscriptions for both Thomas and Ann but cannot find any mention of Thomas other than this.  Would there be any records for Thomas in the years c1773-1849 worth looking for?

With thanks,
JUNE

No Anne' surname was Masterson.  Funny you should mention Connell as that is her maiden name.

I will have a look through my stuff and if I find anything will let you know.  Do you know what area they were from? My mum's connell relations were from County Meath whereby by dad's Coyle relations were from County Westmeath.

Thomas and Anne's daughter Catherine was baptised in Kilbride/Old Castle Co Meath 31 May 1853 (I think this is right).
I really dont have alot of information regarding the coyles/connells - I have only just started searching this side and already I am pulling my hair out.  :)

Catherine coyle married Matthew shaw and I believe this was in Co Meath or Co Mayo.

My Connell relations were also under Kilbride and sometimes in the registration district of Ballyjamesduff.  But during research I found there were loads of Coyles in these districts and they didn't seem related to my Coyles.  Have you had a look through the County Cavan 1821 census as you may find the family you are looking for there:

My Coyle family (Thomas (1773-1849 - my grt-grt-grandfather) and Anne (nee Masterson) (1799-1875)) were from the Hammondstown & Tonaghmore district and they had the following children: Patrick (1825-1844), Thomas (1826), Mathew (1831), Philip (1833 - my grt-grandfather), Bryan (1835-1858) and John (1836).

I think John married a Mary Cooney and had the following children: Bridget (1867), Patrick (1868), Gerald (1870), Peter 1872), Michael (1873), Mary (1875), Elizabeth (1876) and John (1880). I believe John and Mary (nee Cooney) went to live in New Jersey America!

Any info please let me know!
