Hi, please is it possible for anyone to help me track down the burial of an ancestor of mine called Hannah Brindley nee Fox, I think I have tracked down her baptism in Norton in 1799 and her youngest child was baptised 1835 in Norton in the Moors, after that not a lot untill her widowed husband shows up with their youngest child's family in Norton in 1861, her husband's name was William born 1798, would be so grateful for any help anybody can give me with this one, another possible place of death is Hanley where William also seemed to be living at some points in time.
Thanks
Anna

Hi
There is a William Brindley (transcribed as Brandley) 56
wife Hannah 50
son William 19
all shown as born in
living in Boon Hill, Bignall End
HO107/2001/656/14
if this is your family it narrows it down a tad - on freebmd, there are 6 Hannah's deaths between 1851 & 1861
-
Hi, Thanks very much for that, the jobs are different to later on, they were watermen/boatmen but I suppose they could have been going where the jobs were, will have to check the other Brindley's on the same page with what I have already.
Thanks again
Anna

Hi again, think I may be at square one again with my Brindley's, have spotted the same family in Audley in 1841 and unfortunately it doesn't fit in with mine.

All the BMDs are free to search on ancestry.co.uk. Choose the full version not the FreeBMD one and you may be able to get some more candidates for her death. What are the names and ages of the children then we can have a go at looking at the census for you.

Hi, sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you, my leg is broken at the moment and is in cast, has been for 7 weeks, still for another five ( :(). Here are the names of William and Hannah's other kids still alive at the time, Eliza (not completely sure of year of birth), Eli born 1819 in Norton,Dorothy born 1821 in Norton, Daniel born 1823, Sarah born 1833 Norton and William born 1835 Norton (the kids born in Norton may also be down as Baddeley Edge). Would be so grateful for any help anybody is able to give me with this one.
Thanks

1841 Hope St Swinnerton HO107/992/7 F15 p23
William Brindley 60 boatman
Hannah 55
George 25 Pottery? plate?
Elizabeth 20
Daniel 25
Jonathan 30 all born in county
I am afraid I could not make out the occupations for the others - they all had one but it was not legible. perhaps someone else will have better luck - or expertise!
Andrea
PS remember ages were usually rounded down in 1841. Not sure who Jonathan is as he was last on the list but older.
-
Hi Andrea, Thanks very much for that, am not totally sure if they are mine or not at the moment but you never know.
Thanks again
Anna
PS Any further help welcomed everybody, would be most grateful

Hi Anna, Sorry to hear about the leg - hope you are feeling better. I have been looking for entries to do with Norton and found that it used to be listed under Leek. A Hannah Brindley did die in Leek registration district in 1837. It is difficult to say whether it is your Hannah without obtaining the certificate. I did find a site with memorial listings and there is a Joseph Brindley but not a Hannah or any other Brindleys.

Hi again, sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you again (leg situation again). Think I may have found Hannah and kids in Cheddleton now on the 1841, no sign of William though, Hannah down as being born about 1801 I think, There is also a death registration on StaffordshireBMD in 1844 for a Hannah Brindley aged 45 which fits in with mine. Please can anybody give me their opinion on this, would be most grateful. Please is it possible William could have just been away on a barge somewhere and just missed the census altogether please?. Also please has anybody been able to find them on the 1851, am still missing that.
Thanks
Anna

I have had another look for them in 1851 but no luck. I thought that knowing children's names and ages might help. There are a suprising number of Brindleys around though.
Do you think it might be worth getting a birth certificate for James? It would pin down address and occupation at that time. Actually I realise now that that does not tally with your initial post when you said the youngest child was born in 1835. James is only 2 in 1841. Have you traced him later?
Andrea
-
Hi Andrea, thanks very much for that, there is actually a James Brindley in the 1861 census entry when father William is living with his son William and family.
Anna
-
Ah yes. I found James in 1871 with wife Hannah too. The elder William lives to a good age doesn't he? Still going strong in 1881. I should write to the local register office about the death or Hannah and ask if it is wife of William a boatman before you buy it.

Hi Andrea, Thanks very much for that, it looks pretty much like the Hannah and family in Cheddleton are the right Brindley's now especially with James claiming on a couple of later censuses that he was born in Cheddleton, fortunately have also been able to find a rootschatter who can very kindly look it up for me in the parish registers but will probably end up getting the death certificate as well so will take into account what you have said.
Thanks again

Hi James, many thanks for all that, I am descended from William and Hannah's daughter Sarah born 1833. Do you have details about Hannah's death. I can give you them if you don't. I also caught up with her on the 1841 near Cheddleton.

Hi James,a warm welcome to Rootschat.
In your message you talk of a "Brindley Family Register".What do you refer to by this?
Regards
William Russell Jones.
-
Anna,
I have in the past been in touch with GenesReunited Paul who is also descended from Sarah Brindley 1833. He mentioned your name, but never gave me any more contact details, so I am very pleased to find you now.
For Hannah's death, I only have the FreeBMD and StaffordshireBMD references, so if you have more detail, then I would very much appreciate it:
Deaths Jun 1851
Brindley Hannah Leek 17 39
Staffordshire Death indexes for the years: 1851
BRINDLEY Hannah 50 Leek Newcastle-Under-Lyme LE/08/020
I have the 1841 census for Hannah and the 4 children at Cheddleton, thanks, but I have yet to find Hannah's husband William in 1841. Presumably he's on a boat somewhere.
Regards,
James.
-
William,
Thanks for asking about the "Brindley Family Register". It's just the Family Register pages from our personal family bible. It starts with my great-great grandparents James Brindley 1839 and Hannah Johnson c1832 and then lists BMD events for them and some of their descendants.
Regards,
James.
-
Thanks James,I'm also a Brindley descendant.I'm descended from a Joseph Brindley born in Burslem in c 1766 who married an Elizabeth Sankey at Stoke-On-Trent in 1788.
Regards
William Russell Jones.
