Dear All:
I am interested in tracing the ancestry of one Kenneth McKenzie (also sp Mackenzie) who was born in Lochbroom in or around 1830, one census specifically states Ullapool. He was a fisherman who left the area to fish the north sea and while based in Wick, Caithness married and had five children. Family stories state that in his latter years probably after 1900 he returned to Ross and Cromarty and lived out his years in Achtilibuie in a house purchased by his son. We believe that Kenneth was a lay preacher and was possibly a deacon in a church.
Where is Lochbroom, is this a specific village or a parish?
Are records kept of the lay preachers for churches in the area?
Are any records kept regarding the purchase of property?
Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.
