Hi

Am trying to locate a Luke Burton brn Atherstone c1838 in the 1861 Cencus

Both his parents were dead by this time - In 1851 he was in the Atherstone Poor House.

By 1870's he was in Willenhall Staffs , working as a Blacksmith - He married Fanny Lee in 1872 and settled in willenhall.

Any help greatly appreciated

Hi,

Closest I could find is a Luke (indexed as) BUXTON.  Whilst, in the flesh, it does seem more likely to be Buxton, it's not very clear and could, at a stretch, be Burton. He's the right sort of age, but says born in Stafford, not Atherstone, which is a bit of a coincidence given where he finished up in '71.

He's in District Foot Regiment 29 North Camp, Farnborough, Surrey. Soldier. Age 24.

The thing is there's no Luke Buxton of the right age in 41, 51, 71 or '81 (born anywhere), but if he's in the army he could be abroad I suppose.
