I'm game; dependent on dates, not Sundays ... Taunton I think would be my preference ...

If I could only get over to the UK and down to my family in Dorset then Taunton would be good for me... Can't see it happening until summertime though...

There are quite a few members I know of that live in in Dorset and Hampshire, including Poole, Shaftesbury, Wimborne and Southampton.

Put me down as a possible...depends where & when.  But the Stateside one just sort of has the edge over Taunton & Bristol...if you know what I mean  ;)

Perhaps Bridgwater would be more attractive than the States then  ;)

this is great folks

keep em coming

i live in Bridgwater, so we could have it at my house lol

on second thoughts

i will start looking for places, it seems Tauton is the prefered location at the mo, want to get somewhere nice, not too expensive, near the motorway/ train station and car parking.

this might mean i will have to research pubs in Taunton, but hey ho we all have to make sacrifices lol

These places are all so close, so why not bite the bullet and meet at Minehead - we could all go to Butlitz for the day  ;)

Just for you Lydart

Annie E Hill head W 58 Retired Roundabout proprietor and Amusement Caterer
born Coaley, Gloucs
Bertha Butlin dau M 23  b. Coaley, Gloucs
Millie Hill        dau S  14         "
William Butlin grson  2      Cape Colony

From Wikipedia....
Billy Butlin was born in Cape Town, South Africa. His father, also called William Butlin, was the son of a clergyman but his mother, Bertha Hill, was a member of a family of travelling showmen. Their marriage was considered something of a disgrace in Leonard Stanley, Gloucester, UK, where they lived, and they were encouraged to emigrate to South Africa. When the marriage failed, Billy’s mother returned to England with her children and rejoined her own showmen family in Bristol.

Well, fancy that !  Isn't RootsChat wonderful for miscellaneous but very interesting information!  So he was from South Africa ... must keep that fact handy for the next pub quiz !

Live and learn ....

Thanks for that Ian.

Yes I suppose between all of us on here we must have a mountain of odd facts at our fingertips (or that we can look up).
It's quite powerful if you think about it - just look at the amazing things that some of us have witnessed with photo restoration or the ability to find facts about a family that others haven't been able to on their own...
Isn't RC amazing!

Tony
Isn't it just amazing.   :)
This site has brought so many like minded folk together (from around the world) and also there is a huge pool of useful and (sometimes useless coz we all love trivia nonsense  ;D ) information.

I bet there is is not one single person on here that has not gained something new being part of this community.... I love it  :)

I just love trivia - and quizes too - lots of fun.
I think you are right Cal, pretty much everyone on here must have learned something from at least 1 other member...
Forget My Space - RC is the place for me - hmmm maybe that would make a good slogan :)

Hello all,  Sorry, I've not been about too much since returning to work & I've lost touch...has anyone decided yet when this is going to happen?  Week-ends are best for me or school holidays.

Debbie

P.S.
Lydart...you were right...second week back at school & guess who's got a stinker?   :(

Oh dear...did I miss it?  Or did it not happen?  Apologies, I've been offline for a while & lost track...

Has the meet up died a death due to lack of interest?

I hope not  ;)

I'm still interested, July now would suit me, but not a Sunday ?

Or maybe September or October ?

You know, you do not need a whole crowd to show up to have a nice time. Two, three, four people make for a nice lunch and some interesting conversation. Trading tidbits and helping each other out a bit goes a long way.

Having a face to connect to a name is also a nice result from a small meeting. Please don't let it die. Scattered little meetings between friends and helpers can make this community immensely into a world wide family (I know we are already there with some of us).

I speak from experience as Kathmc and nutkin can attest.

Go for it and lets all hear what a great time you hand.

Wish I had the means to be there!

Great, I hoped this would wake up again!

I'll pm Bev who started this thread to see if she's still interested in organising something.  July or September would be good for me & a Saturday would be easiest, but maybe not so good for others.

Looking back through, it appears that Taunton was favourite for everyone.  Now I have a satnav, I should be able to find it & get home again :)
