Hi Everyone, :D
My great grandparents David & Elizabeth LAING 9nee GILMOUR) AND THEIR 7 Children:
James, William,Elizabeth,Hannah,Isabella and of course my Grandfather Alexander Scott LAING all came out from Glasgow port????(They lived in Airdrie and the Slamannan area ) to Maryborough in QLD.
I have tried searching for their arrival but to no avail. I do know that their son William was in the first world war, around 1915 , and he joined up here in QLD.
Also David is suppose to have come out in 1885 to work the mines in the Howard district, for a few years as a single man??(Family Lore) then he was suppose to have gone back and married Elizabeth GILMOUR 1889.
My Grandfather was born 1906 and he was suppose to have been around 6 years of age when they came out. Of course this is all Family Lore.
If its possible, could some one do a bit of a check or even to just give me a some good advice and hints on how to go about looking for their immigration.
Many thanks everyone,Leanne :)

Hello Leanne
Ancestry has a file of immigrants into Maryborough 1861-1891 (if you go to www.ancestry.com.au you will find it) and it includes
David Laing 1885 Ship Waroonga
(as given by Cazay above - I thought you might like the source)
According to their write-up any further details are available on film at the Qld Archives. You may be able to get some information from the Maryborough Family history soc - I have not found them easy to contact/get information from
http://www.satcom.net.au/mdfhs/
For the later immigration, there are probably indexes held by the Mary.. Fam His Soc and also the State Archives - the archives online indexes stop at 1884.
If the above David is your man - the family folklore may be true :D :D which is rather impressive - most of mine has proven to be false false and false :( :(

Leanne- Think this is your William Laing.
Look up this record on Australian National Archives site-
William Laing, service #1678, born Airdrie Scotland, enlisted Brisbane Qld, next of kin Elizabeth Laing (mother).
There are 32 pages in his record and might provide some family details.
