Hello,
I'm writing from Seattle Washington USA.
My Nana's maiden name was Winnifred Francis Brassington. She was indeed from Stoke on Trent. Her Fathers name was Edgar Brassington and her mothers maiden name was Eva Lily Shirley. They came to the U.S. when she was a child (around 1909). They were intercontinental and she did not become a U.S citizen until my mother was at school age. Her father was involved with the railroad.
The only thing I know about my Nana's family is that Edgar's family was at least partially French. I know nothing of Eva Lily's family in England.
I hope this helps someone put together missing pieces.
Best Regards,
ADI

Welcome to RootsChat
Do you know of any birth/marriage dates?
I have found an Edgar Brassington in Staffs on the 1901 census -he has a sister Winifred (very often children were named after parents siblings
I also have found an Eva Lily Shirley who is age 11 on 1901 census
Birth/marriage dates could help to see if these are possibilities

This looks a strong possibility for your nana's birth registration

I just spoke with my aunt and she said that Nana(Winifred Francis Brassington) was born June 18th 1911. She's the most reliable source left in our family.
Thanks for your interest and response Suz.

The birth registration I found would be the correct one then, as it doesn't refer to the date of birth, but when the birth was registered. As she was born June 18th, she probably wouldn't be registered until beginning of July, which would put her registration in the Sept quarter. The actual certificate would show the exact date of birth.
Eva Lily Shirley age 11 on 1901 census looks a very strong possibility for her mother. She is the only Eva Lily Shirley to be found in Staffordshire of about the correct age to be your Nan's Mum.
If you sent for Eva Lily's marriage certificate, that would give you her father's name (which will most probably be Thomas leonard Shirley.
Would you like any further look ups on this line?

Hello,
I am new to Rootschat. I am researching the Brassington family from Betley, Staffordshire.
I see you have made contact with a researcher researching this family.Edgar Francis Brassington was one of my Grandfather's brothers.I last found Edgar on the 1920 census of King, Seattle.
Would like a chat with yourself or anyone else researching this Brassington family.
Thank you
Mere.

Hello,
I am very pleased to have made contact. Can you confirm the names of Edgars parents please.

Hello,
From re-reading your previous messages I do believe we are tracing the same family.
Do you know the names of all Edgar's children ?
Eva does not call herself Eva on her marriage cert: plus Edgar calls himself Francis,Eva is Lilly.
When they left for Canada he was Edgar she was Eva and their daughter was Kathleen, on the form it is spelled with a C.

Hello again,
My Nana's name was Winifred and her sister's name was Margarete. I do not know of a Kathleen. However, I know that Boom-Boom (Eva) had unfortune with an infant. Which is why she returned to England for the birth of her other children.

Off the wall question time - sorry!!
Don't suppose you have any information on an Ellen Brassington (born c1790-1800) - parentage unknown.
Married George Keen c1829 in Marylebone (they were from Caverswall, Staffordshire).
Resident in Caverswall from 1841 onwards.

Hi Welshjo
Sorry to say that your Ellen Brassington is not on my Family tree, there are so many Brassingtons, there must be a branch from my family that connects somewhere, yet to find out, but it as given me a challenge, in the mean time I have found some info for you, can't comfirm 100%, Ellen Brassington born 1799 married George Keen born 1801, not sure as to the date of marriage, they had 5 children that I have found, first Thomas born 1823 and died 1851, John born 1829 and died 1833, Daniel born 1833 and died 1900, he married Mary Blurton, Prudence born 1836 and Clara born 1838, hope this helps you, I will continue to find the connection between Ellen and my Brassington Family.
