Title: Woosnam
Post by: rgleonard on Thursday 28 December 06 21:42 GMT (UK)
Hello Woosnam researchers!
Does anyone know when the first Woosnam arrived in Montgomeryshire from Lancashire? Apparently Woosnam is a variant of Wolstenholme. There are also other spellings of the name.

Hello there, and firstly may I just say Welcome to Rootschat :)

Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question, but see, as well as yourself, that there are four other Rootschat members who are researching the Woosnam name.  It might be worth you sending each of them a PM (personal message) to see whether they can help you.

At the bottom of the page of each of their profiles, just click on the option "Send this Rootschatter a personal message", and away you go!!!!

Woosnam was a very common name in the 1800's in Montgomeryshire, and still exists today.  Most of my father's Jones ancestors were from Llanidloes.....lots of Woosnam's there!!!!!

Have a look at these:

and if you put "Woosnam Montgomeryshire" in your search engine, you may find several of the results of use to you.

Good Luck ;)

:-* Hello from a Woosnam researcher.
From information I have gathered from other Woosnams, It was Edward Wolstenholm (bc 1630) who returned to Llandinam in Powys from Holland, after the civil war. If you PM me I can give you more information.
Are you a Woosnam descendant as well?
Hope to hear from you.
Ann.

Hi there fellow Woosnam researchers, I'm also one of the many.  tho i may be going to put the cat amoung the pigeons by saying i'm not sure if the Woosnams actually descended from the Wolstenholme family of Rochdale.  I'm in the process of researching it all.
One thing peeps might be interested on here, Friday 30th April - sunday 1st April the Woosnams are having a getogether at the elephant and Castle Hotel in Newtown Wales.  Anyone who'd like to join us feel free to contact me for details on      sarah.robinson43@tesco.net

And of course when and if i solve the problem i will let you all know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ops forgot to say if any of you can send me your info i'd be grateful, i particulaalry need any Historical information relating to the Woosnams or Wolstenholmes moving to Holland and Wales.  Hearsay unfortunately isn't enough we need to have some documented facts ie, parish records, b.M.D records or court records.
Thanks

I have Owens' too within the Woosnams' what are your Owen Christian names Lloydy? I've got several but the two i can think of straight away are Catherine Owen born 1831 wife of John Woosnam my g g grandparents and Sarah Ann Owen daughter of Thomas Owen reputed niece of Robert Owen the Co-op founder.

I have Lloyds too and just about every other surname in the book!  The family tree i've put together is 20 foot long so i'm bound to have several different surnames.  send me some details and i'll have a look if you like .

Hi Sarah

I don't have much on my Owen line at the moment:

Sarah Owen born c1799 Trefeglwys, married William Beaton/Betton baptised 28 Feb 1795 Worthen, Shropshire.  In all the census they lived at The Nant, Llanidloes with their children.

I've posted a parish record look up for Sarah's baptism and marriage............although I should make time to venture to the NLW and have a look for myself!!!!!!

p.s. Sorry for hijacking this thread!!!!!!
