I have 2 ancestors by the names of Robert Tyzack and Hannah Tyzack who emigrated to Victoria in 1870 aboard the "Kent". I have traced Robert's marriage and death, but Hannah seems to have disappeared into thin air - can anyone help please?

Hi Silas
Do you know how old Hannah was when she emigrated to Australia?
Cheers
Andrea :)

Andrea - Hannah was 21 yrs old when she went to Australia. I omitted to say that she and Robert were brother and sister - she wasn't his wife.

Hi Silas
There is a marriage in NSW 1880 Annie Tyzack married Charles P Hidden.
She died aged 83 in 1933 (age is given because parents are probably missing on death certificate) which would make her born c. 1850 - which is the correct age for your lass - but whether yours? The marriage cert would probably give her parents and place of birth - but it may be the wrong one.
You will find marriage & death & children's births/deaths

Thank you Trish - I will look into this one. She may have called herself Annie I suppose. Cheers.

I have found Ann/Annie/Hannah to be somewhat interchangeable.
The NSW transcription agents will check a certificate for you for a lessor fee (I think $10 to check and if it is correct another $5 for the full transcription). If it isn't the right one, you only pay the $10
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/howToSearch.htm#TranscriptionAgent
(I just noticed you are in UK - I think only one of the agents has online credit card payments. Using them is much cheaper than buying certificates. $15AU is about 6 pounds) A marriage certificate from 1880 SHOULD have parent names (although not all did until the 20th century). You can ask the transcription folks to check for specific items e.g. age at marriage/parents/place of birth to determine if it is the right person).

Trish. I have looked at the marriage certificate and yes, it is possibly Hannah - correct age and place of birth too. Just wish she had called herself Hannah then I would be 100% sure - was it commonplace to shorten it to Annie do you think?

Hi Silas
The LDS equate Hannah & the variations of Ann on their data bases. I am no expert, but I have found little use of the name Hannah in Australia & wonder if she decided to use Annie (or others decided for her ?) after she came here. Thus said, it may be someone completely unrelated. Unfortunately none of the children appear to have survived - Have you found any descendants of Robert? They may have information re their aunt.

Thanks Trish. I have only this week discovered the info about Robert, so have not yet searched for descendants. Think I will do more searching first just to try and find out if this Annie is the Hannah I am looking for. Will come back should I need to, but in the meantime thanks for your help.

Hi
This couple had children in collingwood/Fitzroy area of Victoria between 1871and 1877. Charles' middle name is Porter and some of the children are indexed under PORTER as the surname.

G'day Silas,
I am not sure if you are still after info regarding Hannah Tyzack or not. Annie Tyzack and Charles Porter Hidden were my husband's g-g-grandparents and it would seem that Annie and Hannah were one and the same. My husband is descended from their son Alfred Ernest who was registered as Hidden at birth but who was used the surname Porter when he married Mildred Alice Stewart on 15th April 1901.
I am happy to share what little info I have and would be grateful if you would do the same.
Regards

Hi Wombo. I honestly have done no more research into this for ages. All the info I have is that Hannah was born in 1849 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland. Robert was born 1853 in Scarcroft, Yorkshire and died in Victoria, Australia in 1941. If there are any questions you need answering about their ancestors, please ask. The parents of Hannah and Robert were Frederick Charles Tyzack, born 1826 and Eliza Margerrison, also born 1826. Frederick, as far as I can tell was the illegitimate son of a Mary Ann Tyzack.

Robert Tyzack's sister, Mary Ann Tyzack, born December 1850 (same name as Frederick's mother) was my maternal gt grandmother.

Most of the info I have regarding the Tyzacks before Annie has come from Don Tyzack and Bruce Thyzack...perhaps you have seen Don's website?

Yes Wombo, have seen that, thanks. Keep in touch if you find out any more info or need to ask me anything. Cheers.
