Hi,
Does anyone have access to the 1901 census and able to look up the following family for me please?
I'm searching for Alexander Cunningham Hawkes, his wife was either Jane or Emma. They lived in the Aston area of Birmingham and I'm intersted in finding out about any children they may have had living with them in 1901.
Your help is much appreciated,
Regards and thanks,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,
Any idea when and where he was born ? :)
(I can see one Alexander Hawkes married to a Jane, age 53 born Worcs Redditch)
-
Is he the one born 1868, Kings Norton registration district?
Married Aston 1895 to Jane HUGHES or Emma CUTLER.
;)

Yes, this is the one, brilliant, he has a son Joseph (as I had hoped) this is great!! Is there any way of looking for the marriage of Joseph online? I don't have broadband here in the sticks and images take forever to load from Ancestry. I think Joseph married an Olive or Olivia, around about 1930. They went on to have a son - Moderator comment: name of possibly living person removed
Thanks soooo much, this is brilliant!

Looks as though he is Joseph Alec HAWKES born Mar q 1900, Aston reg district.

The name is not as uncommon as I thought it might be!

Can anyone tell me where Northfield, Worcestershire
8 Barron Rd is? Does it still exist and does it come under Warwickshire now. This is brilliant, thoght I'd never get lift off with this one!! ;D ;D ;D
I have a bit of a gap to fill - I think...and hope....that Joseph married possibly Olive or Olivia and had a son Peter Cunningham Hawkes. Seems harder to find the modern day births and marriages. I had been told Peter Cunningham Hawkes was born Jan 3rd 1932 but I can't find it anywhere, only a Peter C Hawkes born 1938.
Thanks,
Michelle

These might help - if the second is a daughter it narrows down the date of the marriage (possibly!)
Death
Olive HAWKES
South Warwickshire
Died Sep 2002 - born 16 May 1904
Death
Olive May HAWKES
d Oct 2004 - born 29 May 1927
? a daughter

.....I'm a bit confused by this one?
I think possible my fault in my excitement!!
The Olive Hawkes I mentioned would only be Hawkes by her marriage to Joseph - don't know her maiden name.

Confusing!!

Hi Michelle
I mentioned the Olive HAWKES deaths above with the thought that if she had stayed in the same area the first one might be her - her death would be recorded in her married name, unless she remarried.
The second one I included only because it is also the same area & the names seemed coincidental.
(Please don't repeat the names of living people, as requested by PM)
I don;t know whether anyone has found the marriage yet...?
A ;)

Ah I see, thanks. I will keep trying to find the marriage of Joseph Hawkes to Olive/Olivia. I'm also intersted in looking further back to find out where Cunningham came from?

Hi Michelle
I have checked HAWKES marriages for 1925 - 1929 inclusive without finding one that looked suitable (only 2 Joseph marriages, both in the London area & neither to an Olive).
Cunningham sounds Scots, as does Alexander, but if I have followed them back correctly his father John H HAWKES is from the same area. Maybe one of the wives had Scots ancestors?
kind regards, Arranroots ;)

Hi,
Yes, I followed it back to John H Hawkes too. Unfortunately John H Hawkes is a widow in 1881. Does anyone have access to the 1871 census please if it's not too much to ask. Would love to find John H's wifes name if it's not too much trouble?
Thanks,
Regards,
Michelle

I was going to reply to this but it seems it's already solved :)

Michelle (Tiktok):
I was looking for something else and saw your messages this morning - sorry I missed them before.
Alexander Cunningham Hawkes was married to Jane Hughes who was my granny's sister. They had three children, all with children and grandchildren themselves. Please let me know if you need further information, or have you found it in other places now?
If you are interested in other messages on related families, see the Rootschat thread entitled 'Killed by Lions' - Joseph Phillips mentioned there was Jane Hughes's uncle.
There is a photo of Jane and mention of her and Alexander (Alec) in the book 'Dearest Beatie, My Darling Jack' which you can find second-hand fairly easily and cheaply.
We have other photos of both Alec and Jane if you are interested.
Best wishes,
Mark Todd
