Seeking information about my g. grandfather Robert Jackson, his family and origins in Ireland, possibly Tedavnet Parish in Co. Monaghan. He was born abt. 1822/23 and subsequently emigrated to Canada by abt. 1840. Any and all information gratefully received and acknowledged :)

Dear Keesa
I'm also looking for Jacksons from same neck of woords. My great great great grandfather William Connolly married an Elizabeth Jackson who i think was born around 1808 in Co Monaghan.
I know they lived in Ematris Parish for a while in 1860s and had at least 2 sons. William who went to Australia and James (my gt gt grandfather ) who came to Glasgow.
I have no further details other than what I have mnanaged to get from Griffiths valuation.
Do you think there might be any link ?
Thanks
Ann

Hello Ann - I too am operating on information from Griffiths valuation. Just happened to notice the name Robert Jackson which was my g.grandfather's name - a flimsy thread at best. Apart from that I have no evidence that he came from Co. Monaghan. I am told that there are, or have been Jacksons in every county of Ireland. You at least have info about your ancestor's origins. At this point I am unable say if there might be a connection
Cheers

Hi Keesa
I reckon that my lot were from ydnavet originally but can't prove at mo. leave it with me and if i find anything out I'll let you know. The key doc is finding William Connolly and Elziabeth Jackson's marriage cert.
They were both C Of I so that should narrow it down a wee bit.
if I find anything out I'll let you know
Cheers

Ematris is a different parish to Tydavnet!!
http://clogher.anglican.org/index.php?p=parishes
gives a parish map of different parts of Monaghan, you can click on each area and you will see the churches in that area.

Hi HTH
lol I knew they were different. I think my Jackons were originally from Tydnavet but I know they lived in Ematris. Thanks so much for this site.
I had a hunch my gt x3 might be buried around Darty or Rockcorry but we ran out of time to go and look last time we were over so I had to settle for a visit to the farm instead - well what's left of his little 1.2 acres. Now I have addresses I can write to so thanks ever so much.
Best wishes
Ann

Well, they're hiding there somewhere!! ;D

There is a Robert Jackson listed as a WITNESS at a wedding in Tydavnet Church. He lived at Telaydan which is in Donagh Parish. Because the Jackson name is largely Presbyterian I checked & found several Robert Jacksons in the surrounding Churches. Your dates of birth (1822/3) seem to fit in but I'm not sure. The Church Records of all of these Churches have now been copied to CD & are readily available. You may wish to contact me directly at (*) & I will try to assist. I am currently copying the Parish of Ematris to CD but the following Churches are already copied - Tydavnet, Kilmore, Scotstown Pres, Tyholland, Glennan Pres, Ballyalbany Pres, First Monaghan Pres, Clontibret, Legnacreeve / Braddox Pres, Derryvally Pres (marriages only), Corlea Pres (marriages only), Donagh, Monaghan (St. Patrick's)(births only) & Ematris (being copied now)

Hi
Many thanks. Not sure they are mine or not. All I have is an Elizabeth Jackson marrying my William Connolly - these are the folks who lived at Corranewy Ematris.
But they were for sure non Catholic based on the fact both sons I have found so far (one being my gt gt grandfather) were prsby (in the case of my gt gt) and Methodist in the case of his brother who went to Oz.
My James Connolly (gt gt) married a Sarah Campbell in Cootehill (co Cavan) before coming to Scotland. Sarah's folks were Tydavnet.
Got to pop out for a bit but will have more of a root thru what I have when I get back! (2 year olds birthday party - don;t ya just love it)

There are many Lambs listed at Tydavnet Church but I imagine you are interested also in Lambs' relatives. Those who married Lambs, the history of the 'Lipton house' where the Lambs of Mullahara lived would be of interest, the Lambs of Lambs Lake (i.e. Derrynagrew), the relative (named Lamb of Knockboy) who last owned the Bachall of St. Dympna etc would all be of interest (that data is in Donagh Church Records) - it is wise to be aware that the recorded data is more likely to be accurate. The Church Records copied to CD are all done with the approval of the Churches concerned, which means that the Vestry Books are searched also & data entered. Sixteen Church Records have now been transcribed to CDs & are currently being sent to many Exiles all over the world. As an ex-teacher & history enthusiast I wish to make all this data available to interested Exiles.

There are lots of Jacksons in North Monaghan - Tydavnet even has a Townland called "Drumcoo Jackson" & Jacksons lived there. These are the Tydavnet Church of Ireland listings for JACKSON - Mullylera - Henry & Mary (1823), Rafeenan - McManus & Mary (1833), Allagesh - John & Anne (1836), Christopher & Mary (1840), Allagesh Richard & Maria (1844) & Allagesh - John & Martha (1874), Foremass - William Irwin & Mary Jackson (1838), & at Tullaghan - Thomas & Elizabeth (1850)
The Ballyalbany listings are - Drumcoo (Jackson) - Davis Jackson & Rachel Rock (1808), Tirnaneill - William Moles & Jane Jackson (1823), Listraheagny (later at Kilnamaddy)- Joseph Jackson & Mary Gilliand (1845), & at Sheetrim - John & Elizabeth (1881).
There are more Jacksons listed, of course, in the Church Records of both Tydavnet, Ballyalbany & all the other 14 North Monaghan Churches now available on CD - detailed study is only possible by using these CDs to trace the various different families. This is the first & only time that the 16 North Monaghan Churches have been copied in this way with the approval of the Churches concerned.

Hi
I am new to this. :-\ I have some of the Jacksons from Tyladen on my family tree. A Henry Jackson who had 7 children David 1816, Sally Ann , William 1818, Alexander 1820, Robert 1823, Mary 1826, and Sarah, David is my husbands gt gt grandfather he married Eliza Logan from Telayden. If any information is of any help please let me know
-
There are two Telaydans - one in Tydavnet which has several Jacksons listed in the Church Records of both Ballyalbany & Tydavnet Churches. The other Telaydan is in Donagh Parish which is more likely to assist you in the queries about Middletown Churches & the Eakins. The Glennan Church is also on CD & contains many Eakins & Jacksons in that area. All of these Church records are on CD as negotiated with the Churches concerned. The data on some of these CDs also includes a brief history of the area & even the Griffiths Valuation of 1846-64
-
Hi Jackstory
I bought your cd from you a few weeks ago and i have been studying it well I found that David Married Eliza Logan and that Robert Jackson one generation down married mary ann moore then one more generation down Samuel married Mary Jane McElnea. I seemed to have come to a halt at Henry who was Davids father they all seemed to have either attended 1st Monaghan or Ballyalbany Presbyterian churches.
-
OK as you know, Genealogy never ends so contact me direct & I'll see if I can solve your dilemma. I have sent out several hundred CDs & I don't know who you are yet.
-
There is a townland called Drumcoo Jackson in Tydavnet Parish which indicates the influence they had. Also the Church Records of 16 Churches in this area are now on CD. You will find my name & e-mail address on many other Genealogy Websites.
