Title: Is Carrick part of Donegal or Derry?

My great grandmother was born in Donegal in 1853 in Burt.  According to her parents marrige certificate they were married in Carrick in 1851 and I wondered which County to look for the families.  Her father Samuel White was resident of Burt but her mother Margaret Irwin (Erwin, both spellings on Certificate) was resident of Ballyquin.  Was that Donegal or Derry and where is Carrick?

There are four places named Carrick in Co. Donegal http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/ -
I think the one you are seeking is a townland near Letterkenny. Gartan is also a townland close to Letterkenny. http://www.countydonegal.com/donegal_map.htm

Another map for you. The townland of Burt (it is mot on the map but is mentioned as being in the area of Grianan Ailigh.

After a bit of Googling, I'm wondering whether the Burt you are looking for is in Co Donegal, but the Ballyquin and Carrick are in Co Derry?

Burt is parish number 5 - right on the border.

Thank you both for that information.  After looking at the map, I believe that my Carrick is the one near to the Donegal border.  That now allows me to better know where to head with continued research

Hi all. Funny as it may seem but i am from Burt in County Donegal. Burt is in Co. Donegal but is in the Derry dicisious (sorry can't spell) for the Catholic church.

The Carrick you may want is at Limavady Co Londonderry and your relation was married to Samuel White on 20/10/1851 at Carrick Parish Church,Limavady. She was then age 25 and shown to reside at Ballyquin,a neighbouring townland,and her father was Robert,a wheelwright. The witness to the wedding was an Elizabeth Gordon.

I have just come across your posting when researching other Gordons.  My maternal grandmother was an Eliza Gordon from Carrick.  I was brought up in Ballyquin and Carrick Church was my church. this is an old posting so did you find what you wanted?
