Hi. Could someone please lookup the Lapish family on 1841 and 1851 censuses. In 1841 they were living in Leeds and in 1851 they were still probably living in Leeds. Their children were Israel (b.1833) , Charles (b.1835) , Sarah (b.1837), John (b.1839), William (b.1841) and Frances (b.1843). Some of the children may have died in infancy and may not be listed. The mother was Mary Ann (b. approx. 1807) Lapish. I think the father was William but am not sure.

there's also this family in 1841
New Huddersfield, Leeds H0107/1348/6 folio 46 pg 9
William Lapish 25 Bricklayer J
Mary 25
Charles 6
Sarah 4
Alfred 2
William 4 months
and some interesting extracted records from the IGI
Israel Lapish son of William and Mary Ann bp 1/12/1833 St Peter Leeds
batch C071934
Charles Henry Lapish s/o William & Mary Ann bp 24/5/1835 St Mark Woodhouse C071941
Sarah Elizabeth d/o William & Mary Ann bp 21/5/1837 C071941
John Alfred s/o William & Mary Ann bp 14/7/1839 C071941
William s/o William & Mary Ann bp 23/5/1841 C071941
Israel seems to be the only one of William & Mary Ann's children baptised in St Peter, the rest are in St Mark Woodhouse. Some of the children of John and Mary Ann also baptised at St Peter's. Or could there have been two Israels - one whose baptism isn't on the IGI and the son of William & Mary died?
Do you have his marriage certificate to Sarah Richards?

I think the last entry (William and Mary parents) is the correct one. It's Sarah's family I am researching. I've seen the IGI. That's where I got my information from. Israel may have died young or have been of a different family. As you say, he was baptised in a different church. The others are all correct. I'm not sure about what William and Mary's ages are though. 1871 census lists Mary Ann Lapish as aged a bit older, but on 1841 the ages are notoriously inaccurate. Her death in 1874 matches with the 1871 census. I wonder where the Lapishes were in 1851.

they're not leaping out of the 1851. Sorry, but I won't be able to search for them today, I'm off to work shortly and won't have time later. Ages on 1841 were rounded down so 25 should be anything between 25 and 30.
If no-one's found the family, I'll have another look next week.

1851 9 Lapish Street, New Brislingthorp, Leeds HO107/2321 folio 529 pg 25
William Lapish head mar 39 inspector of railway works b. Leeds
Mary Ann wife 40 b. Halifax
Charles son 15 bricklayer's ap b. Leeds
Sarah E dau 14 scholar b. Leeds
William son 10 scholar b. Leeds
Ancestry's scan of this census isn't very clear. Family has been transcribed as Sapish and Charles as 13. Reasonably sure street name is Lapish as well. Frances's death isn't on Freebmd, but there is a death for Frances Louisa Lapish on Yorkshirebmd in 1845. John Alfred's death registered march qtr 1842 Leeds vol 23 pg 327.
Hope this helps :)
modified to change date that was wrong by 1000 years! oops!

Hi there,
I'm new to Rootschat but I can lay a claim to Israel Lapish, born Leeds, bapt.1833.
He was my gr. gr. grandfather. He married Sarah Richards 27 May 1855 @ Leeds parish church.
Amongst their children was Emily, born 2 July 1866 @ 147 Woodhouse st.
Emily married Thomas Walker 24 July 1887.
Amongst their children was Mary A. Walker, my grandmother.
I do have details of other members of the family, including the photocopy of Israel's signature when he was the Enumerator at the 1861 census.
Hope these details are of interest.
Diana.
