Hi All,
One of my "Lancashire" Partingtons slipped into Essex in the 1901 census!! ;)
George Edwin Partington is down, with his family, as a manager of a Cocoa Factory - living at 227 Horold Rd, Ilford.
Anyone know what factory this might have been - I have looked in the 1902 Kellys Directory but can't find him.
Anyhelp appreciated - not been in Essex before!! :o
Cheers

Hi Keith,
in the 1902 Kellys directory there is a George Edwin Partington, manager, living at 227 Thorald Road Ilford.
There was a cocoa manufacturer in Stratford called Loose Limited, Marshgate Lane, Stratford.
Coming from around the Ilford area and with relatives in Stratford we used to go straight up Romford Road to Stratford, approximately about three miles?
Hope this helps,
Frances :)

Hi Frances,
Thanks for that - can you tell me what page his name is on - I have just had another look and can't see him - presume in the Essex list?
Will now try and work out how a grocer in Lancashire got a job as a manager of a factory in Ilford!! ???
Cheers

Hi Keith,
From the 1902 Kellys London Suburban Directory, Northern Districts.
I found his name and address in the Alphabetical Index Page 846 and the Cocoa company under Trades page 1288.
Some of our ancestors never stopped moving :D

Hi Frances,
Thanks for that - just shows what a "poor northern lad" knows about London - said they lived in Essex - so looked in Essex!! ::) ::) ::)
I just wonder "HOW" they found out about the jobs - I have some of my lot moved from Stretford, Manchester to work in a paper mill in Devon in 1860 - not through an advert in the local "rag" (no pun intended!!)
Ahh well the problems we have to solve - and I thought Family History was just a list of dates!! :o :o :o
Cheers
Keith
P.S. - just shows you what you can find - just seen there is a directory for the London & Dover railway - did not think to look for that!

Hi Keith,
When I lived there Ilford was in Essex now it comes under the large umbrella of Greater London. It has some advantages though, my in-laws had free bus and undergound passes for years which took them at that time anywhere inside the M25. Worth a fortune ;D

Marshgate Lane has been an industrial area for a long time. It won't be for much longer though - it is the site of the 2012 Olympic stadium and compulsory purchase orders have been granted to the organisers for the land on which the remaining businesses are located

Keith started this post in 2006, and his emails are no longer working.
Have you tried to contact a local history group (website or facebook) to see if they have any specialised information/pictures/etc?

Many thanks :) chempat for your reply.
The answer is yes, I have signed up to the local Face book page requesting info and sent messages to the local History group, but not really getting anywhere.
