I am searching for the family of Elizabeth Hughes b. May 1847. father Rees.
Elizabeth Hughes mar. John Morris
Their ch: Elizabeth Constance Morris b. 1884
Harriette Agnes Hughes Morris b. 1885 Cheshire.
This family immig. to Maine in 1887.
Elizabeth's death cert. lists Rees as her father and is blank at her mother's name. This could mean her mother d. young and/or John didn't know her name when he buried his wife.
John was a stonemason.
Any help greatly appreciated. Joan

Have you any idea where in Denbighshire she was born?

Hi Mike. John's naturalization papers say "Denby"- whether or not that means the town or county, I don't know.
Thanks, Joan

Hi Joan
Can't find Elizabeth in 1851 census but there is a family living in Denbigh (Denby) in North Wales.
Residing at Swine Market, Denbigh
Rees Hughes 28 Skinner b. Dolgelley, Merionethshire
Abigail Hughes 30 wife b. Maentwrog, Merionethshire
William Hughes 5 b. Dolgelley
Jane Hughes 2 b. Denbigh.
This leaves a gap for Elizabeth who could have been staying elsewhere.
There are three Elizabeth Hughes in the BMD records for St. Asaph which was the place of registration for Denbigh.
Dec qtr 1847, Jun qtr 1848 and Sept qtr 1848. It is probably worth writing to the Superintendent Registrar at:
Register Office
Morfa Clwyd
Marsh Road
Rhyl
Denbighshire
LL18 2AF
for a copy of a birth certificate subject to a check on father's name.

Thanks so much, Fairlane. This family does look interesting. Joan

Hi Joan
If this family is connected there is a marriage for Rees Hughes and Abigail Jones in 1845 at St Mary, Dolgelley.
Best wishes, Fairlane

Hi Fairland.. I haven't really had time to explore this yet, but it certainly is a possibility! I shall work on it after the holiday. Thanks again & Merry Christmas! Joan
