I am looking for a john millard who was a Miller in Walcot in about 1838. He is father of my ancestor John Millard a confectioner living in Margarets Place, Walcot, who married Elizabeth Compton in walcot parish church on 16th april 1838
-
I can't help - yet - but I'm also looking for MILLARD in Walcot. My ancestor was Sarah Jane MILLARD b. c1825 "Bath England" (place of birth given in Australia, so would be general and include Walcot).
Her parents were Thomas MILLARD (a bootmaker?) and Elizabeth BARRY, who reportedly married at Walcot 4 Dec 1814. Sarah Jane (and family?) went to NSW c1839; she at least being a free emigrant.
That's all I have so far. I'll let you know if I come across your MILLARD while seeking mine (and they may be the same family of course).
Cheers

BTW there is a John Perry MILLARD of Walcot, a baker and confectioner for whom I have found refs from 1825-42. However he is the son of Thomas & Mary, and his wife is Ann in 1833-4.
Let me know if you have any interest in this one.
Cheers

This won't help any current posts, but I'd like to determine if Robert Millard, born about 1632, was born in northern Somerset, and immigrated to MA in the US about 1650. I have some reason to believe that my Millard family came from northern Somerset, but that a number of Millards stayed in Somerset
-
John Perry MILLARD, of Walcot was my 2xgreat-grandfather, his wife was Ann FELTHAM and his parents were Thomas MILLARD and Mary Eleanor PERRY. I would be happy to share information with anyone else descended from this family, some of whom will be in Australia, as Ann and some of her children went there
-
Good to see these various Walcot MILLARDs showing up. I have not yet found a connection to any others yet, but that would not surprise when I can get back a bit further.
I have just transcribed Walcot BTs for MILLARD 1819-33 - not yet in the computer but I hope to find time soon. Until then I'm happy to check for events. For example you probably already have this marriage:
John Perry MILLARD, OTP, B; Ann FELTHAM, OTP, S.
Married in church by licence 6 Mar 1831, by Gauis BARRY Curate.
(signed) John Perry MILLARD, Ann FELTHAM.
(witnesses) John SILCOCK, Sarah FELTHAM.
Have you seen the PERRY genealogy at Somerset Archives?
http://www.somerset.gov.uk/archives/
A catalogue search on words Perry and Millard (using And option for words in fields) turns up 7 hits, first 6 of which are relevent - leases, mortgages, etc. that identify Mary Eleanor's parents John & Mary, sister Sarah, uncle Isaac, cousin John - thats just from the indexes.
I'll post my own lot soon - so far back to Thomas MILLARD b 1794, son of Thomas & Sarah, and brother of John b 1792. Thomas junior was a shoemaker of which there seem to be a disproportionate number in Walcot.

Mary Milliard age 65 Tyning Lane
Joseph Millard age 43 Shoemaker Richmond Place

Hope that this may help you all in some way.
Kind regards Chris.

Hi Catherine Anne
I have an Eleanor Perry in my line -
b. 12 Apr 1802,
d. 8 Dec 1883.
She married William Whereat on 12 Dec 1826 in Walcot Bath Somerset.
Eleanor and William's son Isaac (1842-1917) moved to Australia some time before 1872 when he was married to Elizabeth Murdock in New South Wales, Aus.
Do you know if Thomas MILLARD and Mary Eleanor PERRY have any relation to Eleanor Perry. I don't have any information on her family.
Kind Regards
Joanne

Hello Joanne
I have your Eleanor PERRY as the daughter of Isaac PERRY (bc1763, d1833) and Ann PERRY(same maiden surname) (died 1833) married 1784. Their family was John, born 1787, died before 1790; John, born 1790; James, born 1792; Sarah Hyatt bc1794, spouse John WILLCOX; Isaac, bc 1798; Ann bc1800, spouse Samuel SIDWELL; your Eleanor, b 1802.
Isaac PERRY, bc1763, was the son of John PERRY, died 1770, who married Eleanor WATTSON (1729-1797) in 1755.
They had another son John (c1756-1807) who married Mary GARDINER (c1759-1821) in 1784.
John and Mary's first child was Mary Eleanor (c1785-1815) who married Thomas MILLARD (1784-1830) in 1808, my line.
John and Mary's other children were Sarah Hyatt (bc 1787), spouse George SINCLAIR); Sophia Ross, 1788-1789; Eleanor, 1789-1790.
I could let you have the names of Isaac WHEREAT's nine siblings, if you don't already have them.
I hope that is of some use to you,
Regards

I am also descended from William Whereat and Eleanor Perry - via his son Charles James. I have further information about Williams ancestors and descendents if it is of interest. I also have press cuttings etc about his sons Isaac and Edward Reeves both of whom went to Australia and were prominent citizens of Tenterfield NSW.
CatherineAnne what is the source of your information re ancestors of Eleanor Perry?
Kath

Hi Kath
My sources have been many and varied, over 20 years of researching these families. I'm still looking and am always open to additions and corrections. If you would like more information than that given in my Aug 24 message, please feel free to ask.
Anne, N Z
-
Yes, I guess I've been researching for 25 years or so too so as you say all sorts of information comes along. Its a pity the internet didn't exist back then, it's so much easier to search and to exchange information with others. I have gone 3 generations further back in the Whereat line to John b circa 1710 but I've never really followed this Perry line back (my own maiden name was, coincidentally, also Perry so possibly my two Perry trees could meet up somewhere along the line!).
Do you know which Parish the baptisms and marriages you have listed with Eleanor Perry's ancestry took place in? Do you remember whether you got the information directly from the parish register or IGI or perhaps it was passed on to you from another researcher?
I also am willing to pass on information if it would be helpful to you . My email address is kath_online at thestennetts dot co dot uk we probably should stop nattering about Whereat/Perry on a thread with topic Millard!

We believe we are the COOK family you are interested in. I am directly descended from 'old Fred' through the male line. We have recently discovered our family link with MILLARD.
-
It would be great if you are related as it's my daughters line as i divorced my husband about 38 years ago.He was the Millard.Fred Cook married Kathleen Daly from Ireland.they only had two kids Matilda Ethel irene Cook and James Cook.Matilda known as Ethel married Leslie Thomas Millard with unknown father but his mother was Florence Millard of Saltford near Bath.Does this ring any bells.Fred drowned with hus hands and feet tied but it still came back as a open verdict.Hope to hear from you again.regards Cathayb

Hi Cathayb
Seems we are the COOK family you are looking for. We know some of the history. Been looking for some family. Jimmy was my father. I met his sister in the 40s/50s, when I was a young boy. She had two boys (my cousins) then.
-
flip me.we never knew james or uncle Jim as we called him had any children?Yes his sister had two boys first one called peter Cook as he was born out of wedlock and then Philip A Millard.she went on to have another son still living so i cannot mention him and a daughter Benda who died young of a brain tumour.Philip was my first husband so i think my daughter would be your 1st cousin once removed.is that correct?
-
I have a lot of the Cooks tree so when i have time i will share it on here for you. Also have the paper cutting of Fred Cooks drowning ect.,Uncle Jim lived a long life he only died i think about the year 2001.I will check. He lived his later years in saltford nr.Bath.does it still seem like the same family??
