Hi everyone! :) :)
As I type I am "on the edge of my seat!" I think I might have found my elusive Hannah Martin (Martyn) and if so then a wall will not crumble...it will crash to the ground.
But I need help to confirm I have the right person.
Hannah Martin married Philip YEO on the 27 March 1785 in Lifton, Cornwall. Philip was born in Stratton in 1759. We have been unable to find any information at all about Hannah....and we have been searching for a few years.
But, tonight after staring at a map of Cornwall seeminly for hours, the 15 mile radius generalisation clicked into my thoughts. I spent time looking for any Martins within that range, starting from Lifton. Bingo...in St Stephens there was a Hannah Martyn born in 1757.
Now I need to verify I have the right person. As far as I know there is no OPR for Lifton, so I would appreciate some help to try to find out if I am able to bring out the dynamite! ;)
Here's hoping.

To clarify what you are requesting
Lifton I believe is a Devon parish (on the border with Cornwall).
http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/Lifton/index.html
The parish church is St. Mary the Virgin.
http://www.thirdman.ukhq.co.uk/church/dev-lifton-s.html
Stratton is in Cornwall. The parish church is St Andrew
Is it this Cornish entry from the IGI you are interested in
HANNAH MARTYN
Christening: 10 NOV 1757 Saint Stephens By Launceston, Cornwall
Father: JOHN MARTYN
Mother: ELIZABETH COWLES
Form submitted by a member of the LDS Church. The form lists the submitter's name and address and may include source information. The address may be outdated. Details vary. To find the form, you must know the batch and sheet number.
So not sourced directly from parish registers themselves but from a Mormon church member in 1988.
So do you want someone to check the 1785 marriage in Lifton Devon to see whether Hannah's place of residency (less likely since marriages ususally took place in the woman's parish) was given as St. Stephens by Launceston?
Or you want someone to check the St. Stephens by Launceston parish registers to see if Hannah survived childhood and didn't marry in that parish? (National Burial Index has coverage only from 1813)
Or a check in Lifton parish registers for any Martyns in general?
These were the other church records at St Stephen by Launceston for Martyns submitted to the IGI by the same church member.
WILLIAM MARTYN
JOAN BOAR
Marriage: 26 AUG 1749 Saint Stephens By Launceston, Cornwall
JOHN MARTYN
Father: JONATHAN MARTYN
Mother: MRS. JOAN MARTYN
Spouse: ELIZABETH COWLES
Marriage: 09 OCT 1749 Saint Stephens By Launceston, Cornwall
JOHN MARTYN
Christening: 02 MAR 1755 Saint Stephens By Launceston, Cornwall
Father: JOHN MARTYN Mother: ELIZABETH COWLES
JANE MARTYN
DIGORY PAINTER
Marriage: 09 MAR 1761 Saint Stephens By Launceston, Cornwall
If it is a search in Lifton parish registers you want you probably need to do a further request on the Devon board.

Good morning from Australia, Valda. :) :) :)
Thank you so very much for all the invaluable information you have posted whilst I was asleep! So much to think about. ..so much to learn about Cornwall and Devon.
You have the correct IGI enrty I came across that would appear to be a viable possibilility for our Hannah MARTYN.
I will post a message on the Devon board for a search of Lifton parish registers, as you have suggested.
I had thought also that marriages would generally take place in the woman's parish and so had not even thought of venturing further afield until now. Maybe though, the Martyn family shifted there at some stage? That would explain her birth as being in another parish.
So I suppose my first step would be as you suggest to see if someone would be able to check the St Stephens by Launceston parish registers to see if Hannah survived childhood and didn't marry in that parish.
Do you think I should begin a new topic for this request for help?
Cheers :)

I would start again and just state precisely what help you are requesting and which parish registers you are interested in.

Hi Elsie, I note that you had a person listed in your post PHILIP YEO b. Stratton 1759. I have a YEO born in Stratton, Margaret YEO bpt 25 April 1744 with parents William YEO and Elizabeth UGLOW would there be a close connection? Do you have any info on the YEO family in Stratton, Cornwall? I have done limited research delving the Parish records at Stratton. Any help would be appreciated.
