In 1886 in Aston William Hughes aged 21 gun maker, father Edward Hughes, gun maker marries Annie Lee, aged 19 , father Michael Lee, builder. In 1857 in Birmingham Michael Lea , aged 20 bricklayers labourer, father William , marries Sarah Hughes aged 18, father Edward Hughes, gun maker. May be it's a total coincidence but by tracing the censuses back I find that Edward (Sarah's father) is born in 1801 and that Edward (William's father) is born in 1842 and his father John is born in 1820 (also a gun maker). Can anyone find a relationship between John (1820)and Edward (1801)?

John Hughes/b.4/10/1819/St.Phillip's/B'ham
Fa.Edward/Ma.Phillis Sharp.

Bingo!
Sarah Hughes/b.26/9/1840/St.Phillip's/B'ham
Fa.Edward/Ma.Phillis
Sarah(1840) & John(1820) were brother & sister.Edward(1842) was Sarah's nephew.

Thanks for that I think that's right . I think it makes William and Sarah First cousins once removed. Thank you.

Hi I saw your post, & although I’m a little confused, I wondered if we might be related…
I think our common ancestor maybe John HUGES b.1820 He married Sarah & had at least 6 children -
Edward b.1841,
John b.1844,
Thomas b.1849,
Emeline (Emily) b. 1852,
Henry b. 1855, &
Kate b.1860.
Edward is my ancestor. He & most of his children like John are involved in the gun trade.
Do you think we might be related?

Yes that looks like the right bunch . it's Emmeline born in 1852 who I think is the give away. Actually it's not my direct tree but my sister in laws but I think she'll be delighted!
