I am trying to locate details of the marriage between Charles Clinch & Hannah Wheatland their first child, Charles, was born 1817 but retained the surname Wheatland. Some other children had the name Wheatland Clinch.
Charles Clinch also married Martha Wheatland (Hannah's sister) in the mid to late 1820's.
Any information may answer many questions.
Thanks

You may need to look at the other end of the county - Charles and Martha married in Cookham in 1824.

I gather that Cookham is at the other end of the County from Thatcham?
I believe that Hannah (nee Wheatland) Clinch died about 1823/4 so this would possibly explain Charles Clinch marrying Martha (sister of Hannah).
Would you happen to know whether Charles and Hannah married around 1815? and also whether she died mid 1820's?
Hoping I'm not pushing my luck

Hi Kerryn,
I've also been doing some work on the Wheatland Clinchs and it would be good to compare notes. I have a lot of info which could use another eye cast across it. Charles is of particular interest to me and I've developed a few thoughts on where he came from.
Would you be interested in getting in touch?

Hi Kerryn,
I have had a look on the Berkshire Burial Index and found these:
Location: St Mary's Thatcham
Name: Charles Clinch
Date of Burial: 9/9/1858
Age:73 yrs
Location: St Mary's Thatcham
Name: Martha Clinch
Date of Burial: 17/9/1835
Age: 38 yrs
There was no record for a Hannah Clinch but there was this burial:
Location: St Mary's Thatcham
Name: Hannah Wheatland
Date of Burial: 18/1/1824
Age: 34 yrs
Hope this info helps a little.

I appreciate the information Chris.
This seems to explain the different hyphenated surnames of the various children. I know there are others interested in this information so I thank you on behalf of them too.

In Aug 2004 I received information from Geoff Dare in Australia about Hannah Wheatland and Charles Clinch.
I quote from his letter: "Following the death of Charles Clinch's first wife, he had a relationship with Hannah Wheatland and they had four or five children who were baptised under the name of Wheatland. Hannah died in 1824 and Charles married her sister Martha and they had one known daughter Jane." Jane is on my direct line.
The children seemed to use both Wheatland and Clinch but all my research has indicated that what he sent me is true. Charles and Hannah never did marry as far as I can tell.
