I hope somebody here can help...Am looking for my GGrandfather George Alfred West m Florence Louisa Liddell 3rd Sept 1904 The Registers Office, Tynemouth. Marriage cert has Edward West , Publican, deceased & Thomas Liddell, Engine Fitter as parents for the couple.
George Alfred West was a Gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery, enlisted London. Died of wounds 23/06/1918 France & Flanders noted as being born in Brighton? has his residence at time of marriage as The Camp, Rha__der. Its unreadable. And residence for Florence is Howden Rd North Shields.

Sorry....marriage cert states he was 22 so I would say born abt 1882.

on 1901 census: rg13 piece 991, folio 92, page 39. George west , single, soldier, private RMA, born Brixton, Devonshire. have a look and lef me know what you think.

have you searched the commonwealth war graves commision ? what about a service number ?

g a west died 23/06/1915, service no 16283, bedford house cemetery, belgium. how about that ?

there is a medal card on nationalarchives online !!! for 3pounds fifty !!!

Could the camp be at Rhayader in Powys Wales?

I don't know if this will interest you but if you go to:
www.regiments.org
you may be able to find out where the regiment were stationed at the time of the marriage. It takes a bit of digging around this site but I know I found the whereabouts of a regiment in a particular year.

Yes Kellie that service number is correct but I have 1918 as the year of death from military-genealogy.com, they had him as being born in Brighton. How did you find out where he was Buried????Thats fantastic
Tess, Rhayader sounds like it, the y has faded out in the marriage cert so wasn't sure what it was, gives me another place to start looking.
