Hello
My g, g, g, g grandmother's married name was Jane Wood. She was born in Ham Street in about 1814. She married John Wood in about 1834 but I don't know her maiden name. In 1841 they were living in Orlestone near Ham Street with 3 children. Can anyone find them in the 1851 census? By 1861 Jane has remarried and is living in Rye with George Campany.
Many thanks

This looks like Jane and her family in 1851 living in Ruckinge
Jane Wood born 1814 Orlestone
Elizabeth Wood, daughter, born 1844 Orlestone
George Wood, son, born 1842 Orlestone
Mary Wood, daughter, born 1846 Orlestone
Thomas Wood, son, born 1836 Orlestone
William Wood, son, born 1840 Orlestone
William Collins, lodger, born 1799 Warehorne. (unmarried)
Jane is already a widow.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much Blue
I think I've found a death for John Wood in 1848, and Jane remarried in 1853.
Does it say whether Jane had an occupation in 1851?

Hi Kirsty,
Sorry, there is no occupation shown for Jane or any of the family I am afraid. :(
Best wishes,

Hi Little Else
There is a marriage in the September quarter of 1853 in the East Ashford registration district (includes Orlestone etc.) of a George CAMPANY with one of the possible spouses being a Jane WOOD ref. 2a 726
There is a lookup offer from an index of East Ashford Registration district marriages (1754-1911) available on the Kent Lookup Exchange http://members.tripod.com/~jo42/knt.html which should confirm (or otherwise) the marriage if it took place in a C of E church. If it was a registry office or non-conformist marriage then you will probably need to purchase a certificate to get the details.
