Hello!
I am looking for data on the Bower and Sinclair families.
So far I know that John Bower, b: about 1855 married Jane Sinclair, b:1857 in Dunfermline about 1875. Had 4 children in Dunfermline named William, Annie, Ellen and John. They migrated to Australia in 1884 and had 4 more children there, David, Robert, Alexander and Janet.
Jane is the daughter of John and Ann Sinclair who were also married in Dunfermline, about 1855. I think Ann's maiden name is Beattie. And I have reason to belive that the Jean Sinclair born 1856 could be the sister of Jane. Hope somebody could help me get this cleared.
Any data on John and Ann Sinclair would be deeply appreciated. Thanks! :)

Hi there
The IGI gives this info for their marriage:
JOHN BOWER
Spouse: JANE SINCLAIR
Marriage: 07 MAY 1875
Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland
and this appears to be the info on the family in 1881:
Living at 6 Store Row in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland
Source of Data: FHL Film 0203521 GROS Data: Vol 424 ,ED 27, Page 15
John BOWER age 27 b. Aberdour, Fife, Scotland, Head, Coal Miner
Jane BOWER age 25 b. Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, Wife
William BOWER age 5 b, Beath, Fife, Scotland, Son
Anne BOWER age 3 b. Beath, Fife, Scotland, Dau
Helen BOWER age 4m b. Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, Dau
Because you have an exact date of marriage you should be able to view the MC on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk website and learn for certain who her parents were. Her mother's maiden name will be stated there.
A look on the 1861 Ancestry Scottish census index only shows a Joan Sinclair, age 3, with parents named John and Mary or a Jean Sinclair age 5 with mother apparently named Margaret. Didn't see a John and Ann though.
Best wishes

Jean,
Angel of my genealogy research thank you.
I got the name John and Ann from Jane Bower's (nee Sinclair) death record in Australia. But then I don't know how correct that information is. The census you found shows all the children that were with the Bowers who sailed on Selkirkshire on 1884. Thanks so much Jean.
Thank God for people like you!

Jean,
Just one question about the 1661 census. How old is John Sinclair on that census? I was just talking to rellies and we think Jane's mother could be named Mary Ann. So the 1661 census data you found could be right. Errors in transcription are common in Ancestry.com.
Thanks Again.

Hi John
THat's the 1861 census...not the 1661! (I know you knew that but you're fingers didn't ;D)
The 1861 index of the household has:
John Sinclair age 39
Mary Sinclair age 39
Mary Sinclair age 12
Ann Sinclair age 10
Joan Sinclair age 3
They are living in Dunfermline, Landward Parish and their address is Brucelield Feus.
Hope this helps!
Best wishes
Jean
