Title: GERMANY: Mampel family from Ilmenau
Post by: kennvido on Monday 04 December 06 09:50 GMT (UK)
Looking for Mampel. Moved to Ilmenau, Germany from the Alsace-Lorraine part of France.
Carl, Fritz, Richard, Anna, Minna were 5 of 12 Mampels I know about. Carl was my Grandfather born in 1887, the others were two brother and two sisters. Carl and Fritz settled in the New York City area and Carl Otto Guenther Mampel married Theodora Lehman in 1916.

Hi Kennvido,

If you enter MAMPEL in the german GEDBAS site (uploaded GEDCOM files)
http://gedbas.genealogy.net/index.jsp
you get several MAMPEL/MÄMPEL entries.

one is repeated, and that one is for

Anna Ida Mämpel possibly from Ilmenau.
She married: 25 JUL 1908 - Max Franz Andreas Conrad EBENHÖG

Does that ring any bells ?

Or any of the other MÄMPEL names ??
There are e-mail addresse for follow-ups.

regards,
Bob

my grandfather Carl Otto Gunther Mampel had a sister named Anna but I never met her...not all his, I think dozen siblings, came to America...I just really knew his brother Fritz Mampel who married Barbara and lived on Lexington Ave. in Franklyn Square, NY...that's on L.I...they had two daughters...Mary Anne, and Gerti or Gertrude....
My Dad, Charles Andrew Richard Mampel, was Carl's only child...Richard was another of Carl's brothers.

It was quite common for emigrants to drop an umlaut vowel (ä) and make an english (or american) vowel out of it (a).

And with three christian names, it is definitely worth an e-mail to the contact address for Anna Ida, asking whether they know of a Carl Otto Gunther Mämpel.

Write in english, and if you have problems, let me know, and I'll help out with german.
