Glass Houghton is not very near Leeds, possibly 14/17 miles South East of Leeds.

It is just south of Castleford and north of Pontefract, near Junction 32 on the M62.

Gordon.

Hi bombergirl,
What time period are we in here?, can you give more details? there's no council school (as such) in Glasshoughton at present, the only school left is the "Henry Moore" school on Ashton road.
Glasshoughton used to be a separate village just to the south of Castleford, but is now a part of the borough, it now contains the "X scape" ski slopes and what was known as the "Freeport" shopping centre.
it is just off the M62 at junction 32.

Hi Peter  :)

A Relative of mine, George Henry Ibbotson,  in the 1901 census, was the Head Master at the 'Glass Houghton Cutsyke Council School' according to the "Teachers Registration Council" records from 1898. I have an address of Leeds Road Castleford but am not sure if that is the school or the school's board address. He was also assistant master there from 1892 - 1897. and before that an assistant master at St George's school in Darwen.

bombergirl, the school you want is no longer standing, it was closed some time ago,(1980's?), the site is now occupied by houses and a care home for the elderly.
in the 50's the school was for juniors, the seniors had to attend "Ashton Rd. school (now "Henry Moore").In your atlas, leave the M62 at Junct. 32 and follow the A 639 north towards Leeds. the attached map shows the location of the school (as was).
not much for you, but may help towards the big picture.

Hi Peter

You were such a great  help to me before i wonder if i can ask another street to be found. ? My great great great grandparents lived in Florence St Castleford. Number 112.
Does this street still exist ?
Thanks Denise

Denise, Florence Street does not now exist, it has been built over and amalgamated into the new(ish) shopping mall.  Here's a map to show you where it was located before the alterations.
Anything else I can help with?
