I am looking for any info. regarding Michael MacInally and his family in Glasgow about 1850-1860. He had at least one son named Charles who emmigrated to Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Thank You

The 1851 index for Glasgow shows 2 Michael McInally's with families but neither has a son called Charles - The only Charles listed is a 40 yr old

Thanks for the reply. LDS Familysearch shows Charles in the 1881 Canadian census as being born in 1865. Is there any index for this period in Glasgow?

Hi tofrek
There are six births of a Charles McInally on Scotlands People, the official pay to view site for BMDs post 1855 and Censuses.
All the entries show on IGI with different spelllings of the surname (with a name like McInally there will be lots of variants/spellings!), but only one with a father Michael:
CHARLES MCANALLY Birth: 03 JAN 1864 Clyde, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Parents: Father: MICHAEL MCANALLY Mother: MARY GIBSON
Searching under Mary Gibson's name for marriages, there is this entry which looks like their marriage:
MARY GIBSON Marriages: Spouse: MICHAEL MCANALY
Marriage: 13 JUL 1860 Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Regards.

Other children to this couple:
1. WILLIAM MCANALLY Birth: 18 JUN 1866 Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
2. PETER GIBSON Birth: 15 JUN 1871 Bridgeton, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland*
3. JAMES MCDUFF MCINALLY Birth: 14 OCT 1868 Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
* No idea why Peter's name has been indexed Gibson, parents show as Michael McInally. and Mary Gibson
I'm probably missing some entries due to the spellings of the surname. If you have Michael's occupation from any of Charles's documents, you might want to verify you have the right family by looking at some of the BMDs or Censuses post 1861 for this family.

WoW!! Thanks for taking the time to respond with all that great info. This will give me a good start. Charles is my maternal great great grandfather. He did apprentice as a Butcher. Maybe Michael worked at the same trade. The name was always spelled MacInally over here. Just as an aside Charles grand daughter (my grandma) is still with us at 104 years old. Many thanks.

104 :D Quite Amazing!
Before you start on your research, if you haven't researched in Scotland before, have a look at these two links here on RootsChat which give guidance on how to start and how to get the best out of Scotlands People:

www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,24468.0.html
I can't stress enough the use of wildcards on Scotlands People to pick up on the spelling variants of McInally. When searching for births of Charles, I searched for m*c?n*ly (? replaces one character/* any number). Spellings of surnames, and first names, in those times was not rigid unlike today.
Good luck!
Regards.

I am new to Rootschat and I was very surprised to see your post regarding the MacInally clan. I am also a great grandchild of Charles MacInally on my father's side. I have also been researching our family tree. I knew about Charles emigrating to Canada as a Dr. Bernardo child and would like to compare notes with you.

Norlight : Please send me a personal message on this site and I would be happy to share what I have re the MacInally clan. A scrapbook that was given to me with lots of related info. may be of interest to you. Best wishes!

Hi, just looking to see if you found any information. I am tracking my families roots and have got stuck at Michael MacInally born 1848 in Scotland. 16 years old when him and Mary MacInally had Charles Rossland MacInally.
