George Foster was convicted at Berks Assizes on July 10 1820 and got a free trip to OZ (a seven year sentence).
Of course he stayed in this delghtful place and subsequently married and multiplied.
Is it possible to access the details of his trial?

My Foster's come from Warwickshire/Northamptonshire - wonder if these are related.
I'm still trying to trace them back to the 1840's right now.

Assize records are at TNA but are often not very illuminating (details of charge, verdict and sentencing). Still worth checkng as you might be lucky and find depostions etc. Check the catalogue on TNA website to see what survives for the year in question.
The local paper (Berkshire Chronicle) is usually far more interesting.
He may have been referred to the assizes by a local quarter session (records at BRO).
The Times may also mention him if his case was interesting or they didn't have much else to report that day.

I am a Great Grandson of this George Foster. I have a copy of his "Indictment" and "Gaol record". These records are pretty faint and do not provide much information. I'll be glad to email scanned copies of them to you if you still wish to view them.

Do you know who his parents were, and/or when and where he was born in England?
