Hi Marj

Finding other Purslow's who look like they are related but not your specific ones - yet!

Slater's Directory of Manchester & Salford 1850 has:

Thomas Purslow, bricklayer, 1 Hilton St / Mellor St

William Purslow, bricklayer, 49 Melbourne St, Hulme

I've found the census entry for William & family of Shropshire, at 49 Melbourne Street

I've found an entry for Charles Purslow [bricklayer] & family of Shropshire at 88 Brook Street, Hulme

I still can't find William or Hilton Street or Mellor Street

I'll keep on looking for a bit before tea.

Do you want the entries for the others or do you have them already?

Regards
SandraC

Hi Sandra,

Would love the info you have, I have had difficulty in finding the Purslows,

Just received details for the 1841 census
at St.Chads Shrewsbury HO107/7/31/40
William Purslow  aged 35 (b.1799/80)
Ann wife aged  30 (b.1811/1816)
William aged 14 Painter
Henry  aged 13
Sarah aged 8

I would be grateful if you could find them on the 1851 census,
Henry may have been in London,

Its a possibility that the William you have found could be connected, not sure about Charles as yet, but would love the info for all.

Thank you again for your help, greatly appreciated.

Regards  Marj

Hi, folks. On the 1851 census at 1 Hilton Street (Ancoats), I found:

Thomas Purslow, age 39, bricklayer, b. Shrewsbury
Anne Purslow, age 40, b. Wakefield
Elizabeth Bruff (visitor), age 5, b. Manchester

Seems to be a different Thomas from the one Marj is looking for? Though he's also from Shrewsbury and also a bricklayer...

There's no Hornett Street in Ancoats - not in 1851 anyway. The nearest I can see is Horn Street, and there were no Purslows living there.

Hope that helps.

Steve

Great find Steve!

What's the reference number for the piece?

Have you got the birth for Elizabeth as the registration looks like Q1 1851 Manchester so just before the census date.

Hi Sandra & Steve,

I can't thank you enough for all your help, it's great, I know that a few families came to Manchester, looks like you  have found most of what I am looking for.

I have now found that Thomas & Jane were married in 1850 All Saints  Newton Heath, Manchester and Thomas 's father was also Thomas a Bricklayer. I have some sorting out with the info you both have given me, so Thomas & Jane must be in hiding or missed off the 1851 census

Please Sandra could you give me the ages for Charles & Elizabeth.

Many thanks again for all your help, it's so much appreciated

Sorry Marj  DOH  :-[

Charles Purslow 26
Elizabeth Purslow 30

There is a marriage of a Charles Purslow to Elizabeth Durant on Christmas Day 1844 at the Cathedral - he would be a minor in that case!

Good luck
