Looking for information and descendants of :
James MANN b. 1833 Blickling
and
Honor BETTS b. 1829 Swanington
Married in 1855 and moved from Blickling to Sunderland Durham in 1862/63
-
According to the 1881 Census, Honor a widow aged 53 b. Swannington, Norfolk was living 31 Wellington St., Southwick, Durham with 5 sons and one daughter. There was poss. at least one more son William.
On the 1891 Census I have found son James E. with wife & family (inc dau. Honor) also Wlliam Mann with dau. Honor.
Let me know if you believe these to be the right family.

I have found a possible death for James that would need checking.

Hi Topsy and Kris, for some reason I didn't get notifications of these messages so do appreciate your messages. You both have zeroed in on my family members, thank you.
Thank you Kris for that census with Honor, I didn't have that one. Bravo!
Topsy, I can confirm that is the death of my James Mann in 1871, soon after the census. Thanks for the 1851 census too, that's wonderful.
You're also correct about the sons of Honor on the 1881. In fact there's also a mystery for me. Next door is a John Mann, born in Blickling abt. 1827 - which could be my James' brother but I can't find him in the Blickling parish records - will also have to look for the 1841 census for the family
mystery family:

Update:
I've viewed the 1841 census for Blickling and as suspected my mystery "John" is found within the family. I have also obtained his marriage certificate and everything falls into place now. Strange his baptism isn't recorded with the others. I note the eldest brother was born in Oulton, so have ordered the Oulton parish records and maybe John will appear too.

Hi,
on aurfing the internet I saw your interest in MANN/BETTS. I am a decendant of their son James Edward born 03 Mar. 1863 in Blickling, Norfolk. He was my great-grandfather.
The a.m. James Edward married Hannah Goodens and had 7(?) children:
Jane born abt. 1884
James born abt. 1886
Margaret born abt. 1887
Thomas born abt. 1888
Ethel born abt. 1895
Elizabeth born abt. 1897
William born abt. 1900
James was my grandfather who married Margaret Nixon. They had 5 children:
Wilhelmina born abt. 1908
Elsie born abt. 1912
James born abt. 1915
William born 12.Jan 1917
Isabel born abt. 1919, died 1920
Margaret died in 1919 shortly after giving birth to Isabel. I am sure that James remaried and had a number of children by his second wife. In any case he as good as deserted my father William and his older brother James. They both moved to the London area in the 30's
I am the youngest of three boys, my older brothers are living in the UK but I live in Germany.
It would be interesting to hear your iconnection to the family.
Regards,
Julian Mann
