Previous Post(I have 2 jpeg images that I would like made into one. It is a news paper front page. The jpeg file size is 6mb, too big for here. How can I reduce it, I already set the Quality to 0 and LOW.)
I have these files in sizes from 100k upto 100mb. Getting the size correct is a challenge for me I dread to think how you can restore them to one image and then to the size of @the Daily Record' front page. :(
I hope you can,
Thanks
Zed
Sorry, I have had to remove these images as they are copyright of a current newspaper

So we can Frame it for Dad. It's from 1953 The Queens Coronation year and he remembers the Illuminations. :)

Hi
I've done a few patchings over the years and this would definitely patch and repair, particularly if you were able to put larger versions up - maybe two of 500kb each as two seperate posts!
A further thought. Have you tried contacting the newspaper to see if they have the photo, or a pristine copy, in their archives. Many do.

We have looked on line and so far nothing.
I have 'tiff's' at 100mb :P
jpegs at 10mb and 60mb.
but to get them to 500k :o well the closest I got was the 100k and change that I loaded. But I am very open to advice.
Thanks.

Can you give me some info about your scan:
what resolution - i.e dots per inch or pixels per cm?
what dimensions - i.e. width x height?
what package are you using?
Are the jpgs saved as minimum compression?

Scan resolution is 800dpi. using a flatbed scanner.
For one half...
Width 7014 pixels
Height 5100 pixels
102.3mb
Doc Size
15cmx10.91cm
Resolution 1187.704 pixels/inch
???

Right!
One at a time. Step by step. This for scanning large images:
Scan slightly over a half at 100% and at 600 dpi. This will give you a raw image that you can edit in your software package.
Resize this in your package, probably on a drop down menu on the top bar saying 'Image' and then'resize', keeping the dimensions constant make the width about 800 pixels, the height should adjust accordingly.
Now, go to 'File' and 'Save As'. Save as <filename> and click on jpg and then 'Options' or a dialogue box will come up. This will show a sliding bar with 'high quality/low compresson' at one end and 'lowquality/high compression' at the other. Select High Quality and save to <fliename> on your desk top.
Exit your package and right click on the file and go down to properties or hover your mouse over the file. This should tell you the file size. What does it say.
This is a bit step by step but I'm trying to help.

You do realise that the 100% images print out at slightly larger than a postage stamp, don't you?
This is what the second one looks like in print preview of PSP at 100%
