I'd be grateful if anyone could help me find what happened to Thomas Hunter. He appears in the 1841 census living in Ramsbury with parents Richard and Hannah and sister Martha - his age is shown as 15.
By 1851, Martha was married and living in London. Hannah too was living in London (presumably Richard had died) and is shown on the census as Sister. Also shown was a Mary Ellen Hunter, aged 2, born in Ramsbury, whose relationship to the Head of Household was 'Nepw daughter' - presumably Nephew's daughter. So I don't know if she was Thomas's daughter - there is no mention of Thomas or the little girl's mother.
Any suggestions will be read with interest!

A Possible for you ---- if Thos was shown 15 in 1841, he could have been up to 19 years old .... this chap in 1851 is 3 years older than that tho ...

Hi
Regarding little Mary Ellen....
There is a Christening on IGI
Mary Ellen HUNTER
Extracted: Chr 24 Dec 1848 Ramsbury - Parents George HUNTER & Emily
Submitted: Married: Joseph BRITTEN 18 Mar 1868 Port MacDonnell, South Australia
Submitted: Died 15 March 1889
And on Joseph BRITTEN
Submitted: Christened 5 Mar 1850 Wiltshire - Parents William BRITTEN & Sarah BREWER
Submitted: Married: Mary Ann PARRISH 20 Mar 1890 Horsham Victoria Australia (2nd marriage after death of Mary Ellen?)
Submitted: Mary Ann was Australia born.
In 1851 Ramsbury, Wiltshire - here looks like the 1851 Mary Ellen's parents - and the wee reason she might be in London with her Granny and Great Aunt?
REF: HO107/ Piece/1686 Folio/494 Pg/5
ADDRESS: Newtown - Hungerford Road:
Head: George HUNTER 29, Agricultural Labourer, b Ramsbury
Wife: Emily HUNTER 22, b Frayfield
Dau: Martha Jane HUNTER 1 month, Newtown in the Parish of Ramsbury.
IGI - still a valuable tool, has the following Wilsthire Baptisms to parent set: Richard HUNTER and Hannah:
William HUNTER 12 Jun 1814
Elijah HUNTER 3 Nov 1816
Eleanor HUNTER 24 Jan 1819
George HUNTER 27 Jan 1822
Thomas HUNTER 17 Aug 1823
Martha HUNTER 12 Mar 1826
This IGI group who seem likely to be siblings also give a better YOB for Thomas of 1823 (so perhaps age abt 28 in 1851)?
Cheers

Hi again
This web page has Mary Ellen HUNTER in her tree and confirms (looks like some good research has occurred) that she is indeed George & Emily's daughter. Further, it states that in 1851 Mary Ellen was indeed in London with her Granny Hannah HUNTER nee HOBBS and her Great Aunt WITHERS.

The whole family - George,& Emily, with young Mary Ellen & baby Martha, emigrated to Australia some weeks after the 1851 Census.

Hi Lynne,
I am very sorry but we have been unable to pass on your message to Janet as her emails are no longer working :'(
I have googled her name, location and that of her husband but sadly nothing has come up.

I know this is a really old thread, but just some more info ...
Mary Ellen HUNTER is my great-great grandmother, and after she died in 1889, Mary Ann PARISH arrived to look after the many children Mary Ellen had with Joseph BRITTEN. In 1890, Mary Ann married Joseph, and the following year, her brother (my great grandfather) married her stepdaughter, Emily. I'm related directly by blood to all three families - Hunter, Britten and Parish.
It was my now defunct website quoted earlier in this thread. I do have a tree on TribalPages now, but this family isn't yet in it.
I haven't anything on Thomas Hunter.
