I'm trying to trace a William Bailey and his family. William had a son named John Thomas Bailey who was born in either 1879 or 1880. John had a relative named Bessie Bailey 9 possible (sister, or mother) and all tha family were travelling showmen.
It is known that William Bailey spent a large part of his life in Bolton.
Any help would be appreciated. Regards Staurt

You state you expected John Thomas BAILEY (Johnnie) was born Wakefield Yorkshire? Has that expectation changed - bearing in mind if they were showpeople, he could have been born anywhere and living anywhere 1881 - albiet father William (who was deceased by 1910) did spend a lot of time in Bolton.
And also clarifying - Bessie BAILEY was the name of the witness to John's marriage in 1910 Wakefield YKS -as you say could be a sister or mother, or any other type of relative :D
Combine the occupation and the common names, I think you're going to have to concentrate first on finding more information about Johnnie or Bessie (Elizabeth?) if you can - without his/their POB even that could be a challenge!
You could also trawl this website:

Of course the other hurdle you are up against, is depending on what kind of SHwoman, they may have used a "stage name" in Census.
Sorry not to be more positive!
Cheers ;D
