Sculcoates marriage 1892 between:
* Constance Hilda Readman b. Whitby, 1866, and
* Dr. Joseph Patrick Clarke b. Drogheda, Co. Louth, Ireland 1866.
Constance, "Con", was a sister of a Dr. Readman of Whitby and had an unmarried sister Amy Readman who was born about 1869 and was possibly still living in 1947.
Constance and Joseph, "Joe" had 3 children:
* Francis Eugene Clarke b. Middlesbrough, 25th December, 1893 but died from appendicitis 1919 while studying to be a Jesuit priest
* Hilda Mary Clarke, b. Middlesbrough, 1894, d. abt. 1973. She was unmarried and was a Teacher in Leeds.
* Constance Rita M. Clarke, b. Leeds, 1900, died young.
Joe, Con and the children all appear in the 1901 Census in the Civil Parish of Headingley with Burley, Leeds - Household: 213, Burley Road, Leeds.
Although this group have no descendants, I am hoping someone might have Dr. Readman of Whitby in their family tree.
Another thought is that Dr. Readman & Dr. Joeseph Clarke practiced together in Whitby for a while (before moving to Middlesbrough and later Leeds) so they might appear in some Directory (Kelly's?) - if someone has access I would appreciate a lookup!

I am the grandaughter of Dr Tom Readman I can't remember When Auntie Con died but 1947 might be about right.
Rita and Hilda used to visit me in Skipton through my school days One of them had been a pharmacist I think it was Hilda . Rita was the teacher Both were active if a littlenodd when I was a student at Leeds university. Con had died by that time. I thinkn they both died in the seventies . They were fiercely independent but could have done with support which they rejected.

Dear Ruth,
I was surprised to see a reply to my post dated 2006 this morning! Many thanks for the additional information and personal recollections.
I think Con died in Q3 1954 at Leeds. Dr. Joe Clarke was still in the medical registers in 1923 but I don't have a death date.
It seems that Rita & Hilda both died in 1973, Rita in Q1 and Hilda in Q3. My father was a 1/14th beneficiary in one of their estates - I think Hilda's - I have some papers on this but can't put my hand on them at the moment. Dad bought a corner unit with the proceeds which I now have in my dining room.
Best regards,
Peter
