Title: Pardoe family, Ombersley
Post by: sharonP on Wednesday 15 November 06 14:18 GMT (UK)
My great great grandfather was a Samuel Pardoe, born 1821 in Ombersley. He married Sarah Barton and then lived in the Claines area of Worcester.
I have managed to trace from their marriage, but am now trying to go back with Samuels parents etc...
Can anyone help ?!
Sharon

Hi Sharon,
You could look at the parish registers at Worcester, for the marriage, they don't appear on the IGI, but they may not give any more details than what I have given you, Jim

Hi Sharon,
I have found a PARDOE family in Ombersley Ann b1643 d of Philip and Ann PARDOE they had Ann 1643 Thomas 1646 and John 1649 So they are an old Ombersley family and you should be able to get back quite away the Family Search numbers you want are C040281/2/3 which between them cover 1574-1877 good hunting

Hi
I am interested in a Thomas James Pardoe born 1859 in Ombersley and a 1 year old boarder in Hartlebury in 1861 - his parents Louisa and James don't appear on the census - have you come across these individuals.  I'm waiting for his birth certificate but if you have any additional info then that would be great.
thanks,
Martin Boucher

Hello there - thanks for your message,

No, my Boucher line came from Wolverley/Kidderminster right back to the 1600s.

thanks

Hi Martin -
I don't think your Pardoes are the same as my immediate relatives, however there were a lot of them around Ombersley so will take a good look when I have a little more time...

Incidentially I lived in Alfrick near to Worcester some years ago and remember the surname "Boucher" being spoken about.  Its an unusual name so maybe this is of some interest to you - if it wasn't Alfrick then it could possibly  have been the village of Suckley, nearby! - memory not so good these days!

Best wishes - Sharon

Can you give a few details about the parents? Where and when was the father born are there any other children you know about?

Hi - all I know is that the parents were James and Louisa Pardoe.  My great great grandfather lived his very early life in Hartlebury and was called Thomas James Boucher, however we know he was adopted and this Thomas James Pardoe is just one of a few candidates that I'm looking further into given that he is a 1 year old boarder in 1861 so is exactly the right age.  It's just a line to follow up and may be irrelevant.  'my' Boucher family were from Wolverley.  i'm expecting a birth certificate next week so will know more about James and Louisa then.  These synchronicities are everywhere for example Thomas James' adopted parents were James and Louisa Boucher.

It's all just a hunch.
cheers,
Martin Boucher

wow what an interesting problem. I went through a similar one a few years back because my grand father was bought up in a children's home, that took a lot of working out as he was registered in his natural father's name but entered the home with his mother's name stick in there and hopefully you too will find the truth. Let us know what the birth certificate says. That is if the truth was put on it Grand-dad invented a father on his marriage giving his older step brother's name as father he even gave him a fictitious occupation-journey man goldsmith no less!

Hello again,
I managed to get the birth certificate for Thomas Pardoe born 1859.  The mother was Louisa Pardoe (born Winkless) who 5 years later married James Boucher of Kidderminster, so my hunch turned out probably right.  This Thomas Pardoe was later known as Thomas Boucher.  Now I'm trying to get more info on the father who is James Pardoe and was listed as a Draper/Journeyman.  Have you come across any Pardoe drapers in your research.  The supposed residence of the family was Comhampton and I notice that a farmer Henry Pardoe resided there in 1850's according to a trade directory.  That's all I have except I cannot find any mariage between a Louisa Winkless and James Pardoe so I do wonder whether she made up the fact that she was married. I guess there are lots of possiblities here..............Did she make up the name of father?  Thomas was baptised in Ombersley where there are lots of Pardoes so it would seem strange to make up a name that is so common there and announce it in church.........
Louisa can be found on the 1861 census listed as unmarried (and as Winkless, and based on profession, age and being born in Coventry I'm confident its her) whilst Thomas Pardoe is lodging in Hartlebury..  I smell several rats   :)
thanks
Martin
