Title: 1841 Census Help!!!
Post by: LisaLade on Monday 13 November 06 15:22 GMT (UK)
Hi everyone,

I have just found my Gt Gt Gt Grandmother - Sarah Hasson (aged 15) - on the 1841 census.  She is living with her siblings and numerous other people.

Does anyone know what this place was?  i.e. a workhouse or orphanage or something as I can't work out why all these people are at the same address.

The folio number is H0107/675/13 if anybody can help who has more knowledge on this sort of thing than me!!!

Thank you

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

The address is Newman St, so I dont think it would be a workhouse or orphanage.  I will take another look forwards see if I can find anything.

Have gone forward 3 or 4 pages and it is still Newman St, it was probably a long street and the enumerator has not put the individual dwelling numbers down, thats common to the 41 census I am afraid.

Thanks very much Patrish.

I'm just disappointed that I can't get back one more step from Sarah!

Cheers,
Lisa

Lisa,  on the IGI I found these,

Charles Hassan b 28.3.1821 ch. 1.5.1821 All Souls, Marylebone.

Sarah Hassan b 14.9.1825 ch. 12.10. 1825 All Souls, Marylebone.

Father William  Mother Amelia.

Marriage of William Hassan to Emelia Torres 28.8.1814 St Maryleone.

Newman Street was in Marylebone.

Hi Patrish

Found Amelia & William's marriage on the Pallot Marriage Index on Ancestry.co.uk.    On the original image it states Amelia's surname as JONES!

Not of foreign descent after all!!!!

Cheers,
Lisa

Thats great Lisa, unfortunately there are loads of errors on the IGI, mind you Jones will be a nightmare to trace being so common, I wish you luck, if I can help let me know by p.m.  Happy hunting. ;)

with reference to your search for information on a Sarah Hasson(Hassan?). I have a relative called Hezekiah Smith who was married to a Sarah Hasson in 1851 in Dudley, Staffordshire(now west midlands) Is this the same person and if so could you share what information you have.

Thanking you : Philip Dunn

Hi there,

My Sarah Hassan was born in Westminster, London and was my 3X Grt Grandmother.  She married Edward Evans, also from London so i'm sure it is a different one. Sorry I can't be of help.

Regards,
Lisa
