Title: Chute Parish Register - PHILLIMORE
Post by: SCH2 on Saturday 13 November 04 21:45 GMT (UK)
I am looking for the parents of David Phillimore born c1843 in Chute, Wilts. I know of brothers Charles, Stephen (and possibly William and sister Maria), all born in Chute too! I have come to a total standstill with my searches.
If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. Many Thanks.

Hi.

The only thing I can suggest is that you click on to
www. wiltshirefhs.co.uk
They are able to supply copies of parish records for a small charge.

Thanks Kris. I was beginning to think that David had come from outer space. At least I have some names for his parents. Re William and Eliza-who calls their son Major????!!!!
Thanks again for looking.

'Major' as a Christian name was a tradition in the BAILEY family - Eliza's grandfather, gt.grandfather and gt.gt.grandfather were all called Major BAILY [sic], and it was also used quite often as a middle name in other family members.

I just wish I could get further back on the PHILLIMORE side, - I can't wait for  the BTs for Ludgershall to be published!

Hi I have just started tracing Charles and Mary Ann Phillimore of Chute family tree. He and his family emigrated to New Zealand in 1874 on the Lock Awe. I have information that could possibly help others that are trying to follow the family in New Zealand. :) Freddy T

I just wish I could get further back on the PHILLIMORE side, - I can't wait for  the BTs for Ludgershall to be published!

Now, thanks to FindMyPast's new Wiltshire collections released yesterday, I have seen transcripts of Ludgershall's baptisms, banns, marriages, burials, and the results are surprising (and not what I suspected at all) - I was right to have niggling doubts about William's parentage.
Although on his marriage certificate his father is named as John, on his baptism record only his mother is listed (Jane Phillimore) and she is described as a 'pauper'.
Incidentally, the person I'd thought was William's brother was actually his cousin, but I now have a completely new Phillimore line to get used to!
