Title: Absent Voters' Lists (1918) - Great War
Post by: paulb1 on Saturday 11 November 06 22:16 GMT (UK)
Hi does anyone have access to the Absent Voters' Lists (1918) that would cover Crawcrook (not sure if it exists for this area) ? I know my Great Grandfather went to war but not sure of the details. He was John William Batey b. 22 June 1886 (of Hawthorn Terrace Crawcrook in 1911 and then Iris Terrace Crawcrook  in 1920). I would appreciate any help !

Thanks,

Paul Batey.

Hi.Unable to help with the list-sorry.
But read that your relative lived in Hawthorn Terrace in Crawcrook.

I saw an interesting old postcard (on ebay) for sale today of Hawthorn Terr Crawcrook.Thought it might be helpful to see the row of houses where your family member lived.
Kind regards, :-)

 Paul,

What info are you hoping to get from the Absent Voters List , which are not online.?
Confirmation that he was absent and had the right to vote ?

Michael

Hi Michael,

I did eventually obtain the information I needed (I paid a genealogist to obtain the details from Durham Record Office). The absent voters list gave me my Great Grandfathers WW1 service details.

Thanks for asking anyway!

Regards - Paul.
