Is any one able to help with finding out about a John Kettles born 1792 Dundee Angus Scotland. Married Janet Gibson .
Children James born 1798 Dundee Angus died 1869 aged 70yrs in St Andrews, Dundee Wife Ann Young Witness was Christina Kettle his daughter.

Thank you for your answer, and no I did not have that name.
I am trying to try find out the different family members eg parents ,spouses and any children. I have been told by a family member that has been to Edinburgh (A new registry house that was opening soon ) and did find a lot of the family members and the other connections, eg marriages, births, deaths, etc and when I asked for the info, as I had given her something to start with to look for, I have not had any answer and that was back in May this year.
So I am very greatful for your answer and I am glad that their are people out there that will help you.
When I re-read my note I realised that I had put in John was born 1792 instead of his marriage year, so thank you very much for the information as I did not have any of the that information.

FreeCen has them in the 1841 census, do a search under the name Kettels in Angus.
Theres a few other children listed.

Thanks for your response. I have tried getting into the 1841 census, and it will not allow me to go into it
I have tried different ways and it still will not let me get into it. Maybe there is a way, different to what I have been doing, so I will try them again.

Like you, I cannot easily see any John or Janet Kettle(and variants) that would fit their age (b. 1760-75) in the 1841 Census in Angus or elsewhere. Maybe Julz can provide refs. from FreeCen.

Ive had another look and cant find John again, but will keep searching. But have found James and Robert. Possibly.
Robert, born outside census county, aged 35 with a wife Margaret. Living in Step Row Dundee. 3 Children William, George and James.

Just had a look for the Howff File of Dundee Burials in the Howff Cemeteries provided by Dundee City Archives.
You can contact them I would imagine for more info:

Well done! That does look like John and Janet. Still can't find Janet in the 1841 Census though, trying all sorts of names/variants.........she's there, but how has her names been transcribed ???

No its his birthplace and the end location, Stannergate is his last know address.
Maybe Janet is down as widow Gibson?
Just done a blanket search on FreeCen for any female aged 70 - 90 under piece 282, theres a widow Gibson but aged 70. Tried all the Mrs s too!
A bit stuck now, but I think much for Annette Ellen to go on.
Also, Dundee City Council Burials Dept may be able to give further info now there are some dates, but Im not sure if they have the records of the Howff, but they do other cemeteries in Dundee and they may be able to help. I think their email is burials@dundeecity.gov.uk
There is still some headstones in the Howff (Old part), the New section was demolished to make way for a multi story car park.

This sounds as if someone is a little confused (you can't use a facility which isn't open yet :) )
What is happening is that the National Archives of Scotland (Register House) and the General Register Office for Scotland (New Register House, next door) are combining to create a Scottish Genealogy Centre taking in the existing facilities in both buildings.

I have a marriage certificate for Brisbane Australia in Sept 1844 for my ancestor David McLeod and Matilda Marshall (both born in Scotland).
The witnesses for the ceremony are Margaret and James Kettles. I wonder If they are your relations?

Sorry for the delay in writing but with christmas and everything I put it all of until later.
I am not sure if they are but I have a friend in Queesland who is also connected to the Kettles and I have written to her about them.
Will write back with any thing that I might find.
