Title: Quakers (religion) - Darlington
Post by: tabitha on Friday 12 November 04 22:31 GMT (UK)
Hi, has anyone had to research Quakers in the Darlington area in the 1800s ? I've got one that married into my family and I haven't a clue how to go about researching Quaker records to establish BMDs etc.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!!
Cheers
Claire

if you're still looking:

Quakers were unusual in being allowed to register their own BMDs before 1837.  Each 'Monthly Meeting' will have kept a register.

There are usually lodged with the local records office.

If you want to try and speak to someone about this (track down where records are kept) you could try going to the Britain Yearly Meeting Website (quakers.org.uk) and this should help you find the current clerk to the local Meeting.

Good luck
