Many thanks

Gosh that was quick!  Many thanks.  Would there be anywhere closer or are they only housed in the one place - I'm based in Cheshire

May have some at Harrogate, but my guess would be Northallerton, who are you looking for, can any of us help?

Next time I go, I will be happy to look for you, unfortunately I am not sure when this will be, I off to Liverpool next Monday to try and find my elusive rellie and then I am having surgery on my foot so will be on crutches for 2-4 weeks ::)  so any research for me then will be on-line only, but if I can help I will,  or someone may also have a disc with parish records on.

You can always get films of parish registers to search at your nearest LDS centre.   They are a good bet as you get the burials as well which are not usually on the IGI.

This is such a kind offer - thank you so much.  However, I am really wanting to go myself to get the full experience!  I just wondered if perhaps say Leeds, which would be a day trip for me, might have the records.  Good luck with your elusive rellie and hope the surgery goes well.

I doubt it.  Leeds is the wrong County, West Yorkshire.  You need the old North Riding:

Thanks very much to all - the info from johnboy was particularly of use, it has also made me more familiar with the Ridings.

If you do visit the records office it is very easy to find coming from the A1 or if coming by train is less than 400m from the station.

Who are you looking for in the records.  I have transcript of some of them.
Most early Leyburn 'events' took place at Wensley.

Thank you for the offer Christine - I will root out the info I require - I have very intermittant access to the internet at present so it may be a couple of days.  I know a GG Aunt was buried in Wensley so hopefully you can provide me with some info.  Will get back to you later
